Wtf… Why is this OK?
They speak of locality, but not of the issue, why anyone has to work for 84 years.

Laid off while still owed commission.
Long story short, happy to explain more in dms. Closed a huge deal April 28th. Company wide layoffs May 1st. I was offered a base severance same as everyone. Very few people closed a deal in April so this doesent apply to any of my colleagues who got laid off. I’m drafting an email to the company asking if I will receive my commission payout. Curious if anyone has any tips or thoughts on how I can get my company to add this commission payout to the severance they are offering.
Heya, I've been pondering the growing threat of AI taking over more and more of our jobs. We've all read the news and studies that predict the increasing influence of AI on various sectors, especially white collar jobs. This got me thinking, are you guys worried about AI-induced layoffs? Are you taking any precautions or doing anything to secure your future in the face of this potential revolution? Moreover, for those of you who are genuinely concerned about this imminent takeover, do you dare to challenge or mess with your employers? Perhaps by negotiating better working conditions, better pay etc.
For the majority of us living paycheck to paycheck, or even the middle class finally experiencing some mild financial comfort. What actions can we take now to both still survive and help create the future we all talk about here on this sub? Can most of us only really just hope for the outcome we want, passively scrolling through this subreddit with fantasies of a better life while still being forced to work the way we need to? Most of us can't afford to stop working to attend rallies or strikes. What can the average person do in their life to help create this better future now as we live it?
I work in the technical help section of big retail store in the UK. My contracted hours are till 10 past the hour. Normally, everything including the recovery on the floor, is all done by the hour. We are then sort of stood around for 5-10 minutes, doing nothing. We are located in London so public transport is the main way most of the staff get around. Because there is literally nothing left to do, the managers usually send us home 5 past so we can get to our trains. But now the higher ups are having a go for the managers doing that. So I then have to stand around idle for 10 minutes, despite everything being done, which isn't my role anyway, I fix the 'puters, the others are in charge of the state of the floor. My next train isn't for another 40 minutes after if I…
Creating a bit of context: this was my first real job, I've worked in this small industry (3 worker and 2 boss) for about 4 years, after the first year I was the only one who knows how this machine works… I was the youngest. This was a really old school place and I tried in every way to improve machine and place unsuccessfully, the only answer was “it's a temporary condition, we will solve it soon” After two more years while I was working with everyone against me and of been underpaid, I decided to leave and find a new job. I've officially ended this work three days ago and yesterday I come there again to take all my things. Today they write me some Threats because I should have asked them If I could take my things (paid by myself) and this is the only problem that they…
The game is constantly being rigged against us, now more than a few employers require a credit check and will deny you employment if it's less than stellar. What are you suppose to do exactly? You won't qualify for students loans, thus can't go to college or even trade school. Even if you manage the student debt negatively impacts your credit score. You basicly have to go in to kindergarten with a mind set of get scholarships and master a marketable skill before graduating. Kids aren't exactly aware what's best for them, It's at the point where if you want a life just above mediocrity, you got grind from day 1, the hell kind of life is that?
