So, this happened a couple months back. Had food poisoning, was out of work for two days. No big deal, I had sick leave, so I should be fine, right? Well, I get my next paycheck, and it's ~20%, a whole $100, smaller than normal. What? I check my balances. No sick days used. I check with my boss. He says the only way you can use sick leave is if you're sick for more than three days, and have a doctor's note. He's clearly mad at the corporate policy, too.

New policy, no dyed hair
I just started this new job after not working for over a year due to mental health. I really like the job so far. Today I got an email that they have a new policy, no dyed hair. I'm very disappointed. I had planned to dye my hair pink once I could afford it. I was really excited. It's so stupid. I just don't understand how people can view dyed hair as unprofessional. It's also stupid because most of the time with this job you don't interact with customers. They're not allowed onto the main property. Of course the owner who wrote it is a boomer. I guess if I ever want to dye my hair I'll have to wear a wig. Blegh.
Coworker fired over doctors orders
This was many years ago, but it was probably one of the first times I realized no employer has your back. I was a temporary worker doing basic file clerk work for the summer. My coworker had back surgery from an injury at a previous job, and wasn't supposed to be lifting over 50 pounds. The totes filled with files that we regularly had to lift could come near that, but rarely went over 30 pounds I would say. I was only 17, so I didn't know any better, but I had a good rapport (so I thought) with my boss and I let it slip (assuming she knew) that he wasn't supposed to be lifting over a certain amount. Looking back, maybe they would have worked with him on it had he told them in writing. Needless to say, they let him go that day. Companies & corporations (and…
I'm just venting because I'm frustrated and really am tired of being kicked when I'm already down. I just need the universe to give me a bit of a break so I can breathe. I found out I was pregnant and I'm currently over 15 weeks. Wasn't in a serious relationship, wasn't even going to tell the guy who got me pregnant (despite me taking birth control religiously and him using a condom) but my roommate felt he “needed to know” so she told him, now he wants to be involved. I don't think abortion is something I could go through with myself and my ex fwb / baby daddy refused to discuss adoption of any type. he knows he's going to have to pay child support because I refuse to let him get out of this when it took us both to get me pregnant. I went ahead and…
Well.. it happened
Family planning loan? Society is fucked.
Our society has gotten to the point where even if you wanted to create a family you need a loan. Banks realize that lobby against student debt relief and other forms of financial relief but rather create new products to further in-debt you to them.
hmm, feel good story? welcome to Canada
I posted last August looking for some advice when I encountered being passed over for a management position. The upper management hired a close friend I listened to you all to move on. I was able to secure a job quickly paying my worth as well as keeping a contingent job there as a side hustle. My initial school job increased my wage by 37% then they asked me to pick up a compensated additional duty making another 10% more! New job is fantastic! They treat us like adults. New contract has us working 90 hours less a year and a 12% raise increase over 3 years (school job). Between side hustle and school job I’ll be making substantially more money than I ever thought I would. Thank you for giving solid advice. It helped me believe in myself so I could be here today, working happily along.
TL;DR: Government is not going to help with the rental crunch because they profit off of increasing rent. Disclaimer: Data points that are my assumption or calculation and not backed by a reliable source are indicated with an asterisk* I have been looking into the dumpster fire that is the housing/rental market in Canada recently, but the same observations probably apply to other jurisdictions. Just for reference, rent for new tenants increased by more than 18% since last year. There have been calls to the government to help, but while there were some questionable initiatives to support first time home buyers, there was very little in terms of protection for renters. I always brushed off the government's inaction to help workers that are paying rent due to politicians involvement with real estate investors, political donations, and plain old self interest as many of them are landlords themselves. But there is…
