How I tackled constant context switching during my first remote job

When I started working remotely a few months ago, I envisioned the flexibility and freedom it would bring. However, I soon realized that context-switching had become my unexpected nemesis. In the remote work environment, context switching happens frequently, making it harder to maintain focus and flow. I found myself constantly jumping between tasks, losing rhythm, and wasting time. But I was determined to regain control and boost productivity. Here's what worked for me: 1️⃣ No more multitasking madness: I limited tabs, put my phone on DND, and turned off Slack. Virtual co-working sessions helped me stay accountable and focused on one task at a time. 2️⃣ Strategic Day Planning: I scheduled demanding tasks in the morning, saved admin work for low-energy times, and used lunchtime for meetings. 3️⃣ Mindful Transitions: Short, purposeful breaks like watching nature or brewing coffee helped me reset and maintain focus. 4️⃣ Changing location: Switching physical…

finally got a small promotion after 4 years… but so did everyone else

So, first, I’m sorry if this doesn’t quite fit. I’m really at a loss right now and need some confirmation that I’m not actually insane and the people that run this company are complete morons. (or maybe I am insane, I can handle that too). So some quick background info: I work for a smaller nonprofit in a large city. We do various things, but primarily market ourselves as youth development. I do communications, photo/video editing, content creation, graphic design, social media, and website support among others. I was hired as an intern early-2019, and full-time mid-2019. I’ve felt severely underpaid & undervalued since starting, however, I accepted it as a nonprofit and kept on going. 4 years later, we are undergoing some changes and a bunch of people (who were just promoted last year) are being promoted again as well as the creation of EIGHT new full time positions.…

Other subs could use a little ‘howdy-do’ from the antiwork crew.

r/jobs r/careeradvice r/Kroger r/Target and I’m sure others are stuffed to the brim with people telling tales of labor tragedies. Cultural diffusion of the antiwork idea may be disproportionately more impactful in these domains. Food for thought, if you’re into that kinda thing.

Micromanaged to such a ridiculous level that I just quit on the spot.

I work a professional full time job and started working part time at a nearby fitness studio as a sales associate to make some extra cash. I went in for my shift this evening and saw these complaints from the owner. He owns 3 separate studios in the area. He has repeatedly said that the aspect we are most highly reviewed on is cleanliness. The first pic includes a list of issues he found intolerable, my favorite of which is “air freshener sitting on stool”. He was upset that a can of air freshener spray was apparently in the wrong place in the restroom. (Nowhere does he address where he thinks it belongs. The floor? There is no cabinet/shelf/anything like that in this bathroom.) I also really like “I’m not 100% confident we’re swiffering at the end of each shift, but don’t have specific examples to state that we’re not”.…

What changes/protections do you guys wanna see within the next 10 years or so?

I hate capitalism and our system in general. Issue is I don't see it going away for a while. If you could change the environment around work and companies, what changes would you want to see? Personally, for me? I'd want: Most if not all supervisor/managers of entry level positions to be internally hired. I don't think people who have never worked a specific position they're overseeing have the qualifications to do such. Employers to start realising they've gotta sell themselves. And that's not with employee-paid expensive insurance packages and a yearly bonus of $0.25. You have to actually start giving a shit about the people you employ, otherwise workers are going to go to a job that does and produce better results. Make it so employers cannot advocate against medical advice, no limits attached. Start giving a shit about the health of your fucking employees. Whether that's job security…
