My coworkers have had various reasons to leave the office early. 30 minutes, sometimes hours. One has kids that are graduating. Before that she had something legal going on. My other coworker has had things happen with her adult kids and her teenage granddaughter and was out of work multiple days, then leaving crazy early (like 2-3 hours) on the days she was here. Her kids and grandkid are fine now, but she has continued to leave early every single day. My boss is pretty much never at work so I won’t even get into that. I have found myself working alone for the last half hour or more almost every day of the week for months now. And I don’t mind working alone, but is the principal of it. Technically speaking, I’m working more hours for less pay (I know I make less than them. They’re sales, I’m just…

This is the second time this year she was fired for some bullshit. First time was after her boss found out she was in a same sex relationship, and now today with doodling during downtime. She was on day 4 of 7 days of 10 hour shifts in a row. I'm pretty sure it was just an excuse, since she kept trying to switch to part time because the hours she was given were killing her. I hate it here, I want out of SC, I want out of the United States.
I am a district employee. My pay breakdown is 7 hours a day for 188 days a year spread across 12 months. I was talking to my boss about some things regarding next year, and she mentioned that we are all getting a “Substantial” pay increase. I asked if she knew about what that would be yet and she said it was somewhere around $20.60 an hour. Go ahead and do that math really quick. Now, sure, that’s about a dollar more than I’m making now, but when I didn’t immediately jump for joy she graciously reminded me how great of a raise that is to get in one year and how they’ve had years where they couldn’t give raises at all. She was genuinely sour with my reaction. Anyway, paraeducators in this district get more PTO and make $27 to start and need less education. Might be time for…
It’s finally happening!!!
Someone close to me is a nurse and it is impossible for her to feel an ounce of empathy for just about anyone because she’s so overworked from her job. I get it, the job sucks, capitalism sucks, but damn- do you really have to take it out on the people you love?
Office life sucks, I want to create art.
“Dystopian” is an understatement
Sketchy security job
I work for an unnamed security firm and I told them I can try to request time off to work an event but wasn’t sure I could. They said thats fine and got me a guard card (took my finger prints and test) for the state that the event was in. The problem lays where they called me Monday to ask me when I’m showing up, I told them Friday evening is the earliest. I called them today to ask where I needed to go tomorrow and they said if i don’t show up tonight I’m going to be billed for the hotel room they got and the guard card fee. Are they allowed to this ?
