Kind of hard to argue against the fact that the main problem is corporate profiteering when Business Insider starts calling out the behavior.

God DAMN that was a waste of time
I worked for 2 years to get my teaching associate which ended up being around 10k in schooling and thats without dorm and food fees. I finally land a teaching position at a nice school and im so thrilled! Only to be paid .50 over minimum wage after those 2 years of school, to be VASTLY under appreciated and over worked, to have to work 9hr shifts every day go home utterly exhausted and crying almost every day. Well after five months of that I AM DONEim now making $20 an hour doing farm work and Im just appalled at how horribly full time employment with no appreciation can affect a person. I quit a few days ago and since then Ive been so HAPPY AND FREE
He's has been allowing workers to come in after hours and work over time unpaid because the deadlines they've been setting are legitimately not possible to meet w/o extra hours. And the very “we're a family we get shit done” dynamic has lead a lot of senior employees to do it out of obligation for the customers (who don't set the deadlines). It's cool, he also asked for $100 per employee because he wanted to rent a fancy bus for the Christmas party transportation no one asked for after buying a limited edition Corvette for god knows how much money. Real cool guy!

I don’t think the employer/employee relationship is healthy for employees. What other options are there in the US? I’ve been only working part time the past month and I gotta find another full time jub soon. I hate this. My last job just said goodbye and I’ve been trying to get my unemployment but it’s been taking forever and they don’t seem interested in helping. Idk if I can do 30 more years of this, my anxiety has been through the roof this year
A couple years ago, along with several other co-workers, I helped in organizing a union campaign in my workplace. We had more than half of the company sign cards, but the union we were affiliating with wouldn’t let us file for an election unless we had a threshold of 65% or something. VERY FRUSTRATING. Anyways, we weren’t able to get to that number, and the company union busted hard and gave everyone a giant raise. Everyone who got scared or backed out believed the company’s lie that they gave us the raise because they were going to anyway, not because of the union. Just venting. I bartend in a sports bar with the most awful clientele I've ever had the displeasure of serving in the industry. It's all regulars and the boss won't 86 anyone because if one regular goes they'll take a bunch of the others with them. I'm sexually harassed every day, which I'm used to in dive bars but it's especially bad here. I don't laugh or play along, I firmly tell them to stop. Sometimes they do, if they don't I run their card and stop serving them. They throw a little hissy fit and come back the next day. I average about $50+/hour even on a week night which is the most money I've ever made in my life, so even when I'm on the verge of walking right out of a shift, I leave with enough cash to feel like I have to go back.
