I made it out of the trenches.
Coming from working shit jobs paying 10-12/hr in Mississippi my entire life, I’m set to start a job which pays 40k+commission/PTO/401k and gives yearly raises, this Monday. I don’t have experience, I don’t have my degree yet, I got extremely lucky. So long, struggle bus. It’s been almost too real.
Unlike the many people who are getting laid off at the moment, my job is steady and I have an excellent relationship with my employer. I'm also the only person at the company in my role, but my job is not unique and I can easily be replaced just takes time. I have some tenure here but the work itself is getting boring, not challenging, I'm doing more administration than the job I was hired to do, and there's a lack of career growth opportunities. Salary is solid., but I don't think I will be able to find a comparable salary given my tenure here and the way companies are hiring for my role at the moment. I'd like to leave on good terms with the opportunity to take 6 months off, collect unemployment in CA, and potentially work with them as a Contractor or even return as a FTE…

Pretty much in the title but a few other pieces of info. This isn’t the first time it has happened due to a payroll clerical error. Company HQ located in Philadelphia but I work in an office located in South Dakota. They have fucked up my bonus practically every time and I’m sick of them skating by without consequence. Someone needs to be held accountable.
I got my best friend at work suspended for two weeks. My bosses told me to take photos of the event I was working at and I took a photo of my coworker/work BFF flipping me off. I showed my bosses the photo (no, I wasn’t thinking AT ALL) while laughing, after having taken it. They then had a meeting with her where they suspended her for two weeks, unpaid. I feel AWFUL and all I can do is hope my coworker forgives me. I would never do anything to maliciously get anyone in trouble, I simply just wasn’t thinking. My bosses often cross the boundary into more of a friend-territory and this event reminded me that they are NEVER your friend, no matter how inappropriate they themselves behave. I just feel so sick over this.
About to get fired…
Just got the call from HR that they want to have a sit-down with me on Monday. I work as a gov contractor in DC and this latest job has been a poor fit from when I started back in January. There was an issue at every step of the onboarding process, company didn’t have a general admin code to charge so I barely got paid my first few weeks (salaried employee), and my coworker is an uptight jerk that will throw you under the bus in front of the client/management. I’m probably not blameless, I have ADHD and bureaucratic office work is particularly tough for me, especially with very little oversight/guidance (unless I fuck up). I just began taking medication and have noticed a difference; too little too late I guess. If it does happen on Monday, it’ll be the first time I’ve ever gotten fired and to be…
