One of the things that society always tries to sell us is that we have to find our dream job, but gradually I have realized that I don't really have a passion for anything specific. At the moment, I work in digital marketing and I must say that, although it is a well-paying profession, it doesn't really spark a genuine interest in me. The only thing I think about when I learn any other skill related to this niche is how much money I can make from it. The truth is that I have stopped fighting against that feeling and, in a way, I have let it fade away. Somehow, I believe that at the end of the day, not everyone has to find a passion for something or look for a purpose in the things we do. At the end of the day, we exist because other people decided…

I don’t know where else to ask this feel free to direct me elsewhere. I got fired today from my job at a law firm and my boss gave me a separation agreement offering to pay me through my next paycheck, which would be may 5th under the condition if I sign it I can’t file for unemployment. I worked in Illinois for a small law firm, 15 people max work there. I don’t see anything in the separation agreement explicitly saying anything about the unemployment, only things like I won’t sue my boss and of course because it’s a law firm confidentiality for stuff pertaining to clients and what not. My friend said I can’t be told not to take unemployment is this normal? If I file for unemployment will my boss be notified? He said he would write me a letter of recommendation [he told me it wasn’t…

To make a very long story somewhat short: I work as a theatre technician in PA. Up until January I worked for a performing arts school in the area on a 'P/T' W2 contract (29.75 hrs/wk, 52 weeks a year) as a carpenter/lighting tech. (If relevant, I quit because I got a better paying gig closer to where I live, after being snubbed for a F/T position with the school that I was certainly qualified for) The company offered “Additional Contracts” at flat rates ($650-$1000) on 1099 independent contractor agreements, to their P/T employees, to run the shows. These required anyone who opted to take them to work additional hours in the evenings/weekends on top of scheduled daytime hours. As it was a separate contract, we were not eligible to OT pay for combined hours. These contracts were posed as beneficial by management, as it allowed us to make additional…
So we had a crazy ass coworker who made our lives a living fucking hell and made it impossible to work in a healthy environment. This issue was brought up to management for 2 years because she would lash out at everyone for absolutely no reason. She accused people randomly for being racist even though no one has ever said racist shit there. You couldn’t whistle, click a pen, or touch/flip your hair because she would go ballistic. I finally had enough in November when she went batshit crazy, started slamming shit and calling everyone morons and “fucking idiots” because A GIRL FLIPPED HER HAIR WHILE LOOKING AT HER COMPUTER. The girl who took her place found this note today stashed away under the desk. We were all laughing at it and the lab director got furious and took it and said “THERE’S NO POINT IN REHASHING OLD RUMORS”. We…

Was happy to finally see this on a streaming service. If you haven’t seen it it’s an early 1970s documentary about mine workers joining the UMWA and going on strike. Sad to see these workers treated like such garbage by the mine company. Dangerous job and they were living in poverty.
