I work in a warehouse for plumbing supplies and nearly everything me or my coworkers do, he has to tell us we’re doing it wrong and to do it a different way than we were trained. We have an electric cart (motrec) that we use to bring orders where they need to go around the warehouse and now, after we’re done with packing orders, he hides the key so we can’t use it. He analyses when I take my breaks down to the minute and if I’m even 1 minute late from coming back from break, he pulls me aside and asks me why I took longer. He used to be so chill and laid back and I enjoyed working for him (has never happened before). Now, he needs to know our every step and It’s driving me insane. Slowly but surely he’s getting rid of useful tools that we…

So as pretty naïve millennial who still believe in some good in humanity I got in new trap of capitalist soap opera actors. Previously i have worked in some big companies so I realize they are just slave owners even before but tried to educate them how work should be and make fun of them with colleges. But last job I have put a trick on me, not gonna lie, small family beer pub. Owner is also working, friendly vibe at first, you can take free days whenever you want and fairytales like that. Started working, owner had traffic accident, ended up at surgery and recovery so as person with still human trade to have compassion I had understanding and worked more then I suppose to do until they find replacement. Also first time bartending so learning this job at high speed so pretty stressful but I made it. After…

Story from my time in management
This is from about 20 years ago. I was approached by a manager from another company which was similar to where I worked. They were looking for a person to take over their inventory management. When I went there for the interview, they questioned my familiarity with what was necessary to have on hand, talked about the crews I would have to supervise, etc. It looked pretty good until they told me I would work with the current inventory manager and after he had trained me, I was to fire him. Realizing that if they did this to him, a long term employee who they were trying to get rid of before he drew pension, I would probably wound up being in that employee's shoes down the road. I gracefully declined. Several years later, while talking to my neighbor who had recently retired, I realized this is the person that…
For context, I am paid. However, I am paid by my previous employer (within the same organization) because I was an “outstanding employee” that worked part-time and was severely underpaid. I worked for this company part-time for three years while in high school to get extra experience in preparation for undergraduate school. Years later, I came back to the organization looking for a full-time position that I could use to gain additional work experience before going back to school for my Ph.D. This led me to my current position, but in a different department. They were able to make it so that I could be paid by one of their grants, as a way to thank me for my previous work for them. I make $17.00 an hour now as an administrative intern and my current department has been a total mess in the past few months. I was not…

Advice for leaving toxic job
I currently work for a small business. They chose to sponsor my visa and I gratefully accepted as at the time, I loved working there. However, since they have started the sponsorship process things have not gone great. My managers, who are also the owners of the business, consistently speak to me in degrading tones (raised voices, harsh tone), make me feel incompetent and are always on my back about something (this week it was my shoes). I am not saying I am the perfect employee but it seems to be one rule for me and another for everyone else. Anyway, I want to leave for my own mental well being (this has been going on now for 7 months). However I am struggling as I tend to avoid confrontation and conflict. My last co worker who quit, they yelled at her and called her names so much that she…
Get sued or keep working?
Thank you to my boss who decided Friday at 4:45pm was a good time to conduct my first performance review. Verdict: it wasn’t good. I was called into the office to a monologue regarding how he thought my performance has been substandard. I’m right out of college, and never received training for my role. I was given direction when I had questions and was left to my own devices. My job requires a huge amount of organization and attention to detail, obviously not my strong suits. Anyways, I was heavily criticized over my performance. Then came the hammer. My told told me he pulled all my computer history and that I’ve been monitored for my whole tenure there. He did this nonchalantly; phrasing it out of the blue by asking how I would feel if someone stole my side-hustle idea. I was completely caught off guard because I haven’t told…
Owner Setting Me Up to be the Fall Guy
Owner promoted me to a position without a pay increase that had me directly dealing with clients as well as being accountable for all production on site. I was quickly fixing lies he was telling clients as well as trying to get ingredients purchased; this was an uphill battle as we never has the funds and clients were always furious. I had seen issues before but at this level it was clear funds were not available for even 10% of those ingredients. After two weeks of issues, passive aggressive and threatening comments I decided to go back to my previous position. This was met in the most negative conversation I have had with an employer and threats of cutting my pay. I was appaulded that after a year of hard work I was being threatened with less pay for the same job that for months before had been praised for…
