Covid leave
obligatory apology for mobile post. I started feeling ill Wednesday last week, took a covid test and was positive Thursday, and I ended up not being needed at work anyways and no work Friday. Only called in Monday (Yesterday). I called HR today and they said 1. I need to come in and take a test there for my absence to be excused and 2. since my symptoms started Wednesday I only get 5 days (So until Monday) of excused time before I need a doctors note. So they want me to go in for the doctor to say “yeah she has covid and is to sick to work” after I just handed them a positive test. I’m getting better and will be fine soon but my job involves a lot of physical labor and being on my feet which I am just not quite up for yet. I’m still…
I work as home health care aid and I work two twelve hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday. I’ve made it clear that I can work evenings or mornings shifts due to having classes all day long.
Boss email to work about my dad’s death
This happened in the fall, but I’m just now feeling up to writing about it. My boss (with my permission) sent an email out to the entire office of over 100 people about my dad’s death. He said he needed to so people would know why I haven’t been as responsive. The thing is he had my dad’s incorrect. Like it wasn’t misspelled- the name was completely wrong. I didn’t correct him and he never mentioned it, but I was surprised at how hurtful it was. Just a reminder to us all that they really could not care less. PS- He told me my position is being cut last week- it was our first meeting in months.
Laid off, freelancing and hate it
I (26m) got laid off from my corporate job a couple months ago, haven’t been able to find a new job, either companies are closing their vacancies or the talent pool is ultra competitive. Ive tried applying to odd jobs at the mall or server positions but the only feedback I’ve gotten from those is that i’m too overqualified to work minimum wage (i have a Masters degree). As a result I’ve started doing Uber and Instacart to help pay the bills and holy shit, the people who I’ve helped are FUCKING ASSHOLES. People constantly bait deliveries with good tips and then change at the last minute to stiff you. I litteraly just spend 4 hours doing a single instacart order that totaled just over 600 dollars and with Tip and delivery fee i only made $17 dollars (they left a $10 or ~1.5% tip). I’m about to have a…
Wage theft, please help.
Hoping someone knows what to do here. I'm an hourly w2 employee, and my check was short several hours. My supervisor said the owners didn't believe I was completing work fast enough and one day didn't make the company money so the owners refused to pay me for that day. For one day it took me 8 hours to complete a job that they thought should've taken me four, so they're only going to pay me for four. He also said that one day our work didn't earn the company money, so we don't get paid for that. I then called the owner and he confirmed everything. I explained it was illegal and he said he was still doing it. My favorite part: me- “So even though we're hourly employees who are doing what our supervisor told us, we still don't get paid?” Him-“no, you don't get paid because I'm…
Pretty sure I just quit my job
I called in to my now former-job because I am exhausted and just can’t do it tonight due to unforeseen circumstances. I tried to do the “long story just isn’t happening tonight” and my lazy ass manager demanded the story so I told her. Her answer was “well how does that affect me and your responsibilities here?!” And my response was to hang up. When she called back I sent her to voicemail and she didn’t leave one. Glad I got a better paying job and that is partly why I’m so tired tonight. But man did it feel pretty liberating to not have to grovel and just hang up on my manager.
Wow what an opportunity!
More damn duties than dollars. And I’m sure that paid position opportunity IS the $1-2!
