I work overnight, and I’ve noticed the person I relive from duty doesn’t work so when I come in, I have to pick up the slack. She purposely does this, then jokes about how fucked I am as she leaves an hour early everyday, yet when I leave 5 minutes early with no work needing to be done, I will hear something about it Well, since the new girl started, I have walked into a shit show everynight. I only work with one other person and they scheduled the laziest person possible. I really don’t want to come in to pick up the girls slack, then be behind all night because the lazy POS doesn’t want to work. Yeah, I don't know why I thought this post would fit here, but in a way it's the most appropriate post for this sub. It's funny, five years ago, I dreamt of moving to the United States to pursue the American dream. I came to this country with nothing but $20 in my pocket . After five years of an uphill battle to “try to make it”, and after going through probably over a dozen soul-sucking jobs just to get burnt out and have my soul drained (then consequently fired), just last week when I yet again lost my job I figured this is the last straw. My poor young bro in law, he has to work 3 hours a way from his wife and newborn kid so only gets back at weekends. 1st May weekend 3 days he thinks…. sadistic boss says Saturday is clean the office day (unpaid). He couldn't say no as lose his job, and hard to get (not USA), I hate these kind of sadistic bosses! I only hope there is a special kind of hell for these people. Life ruined by 15 year olds!
My GM told me tonight it is against the law for restaurants to add an automatic gratuity to any guest check. I have worked in the industry for the past seven years and every place I've been at before this one has added some sort of automatic gratuity to any party over X amount or more. What can I do? I have also looked into this said law. She had mentioned it's been in law since 2014 that restaurants can be fined $20,000 for automatic gratuities. I have not found any sort of proof whatsoever. I'm in Michigan and work in Detroit if that helps for any sort of actual advice on what to do about this.
