I'm not sure if there's anything I can do here, but basically here's the situation: I am an employee of a company that contracts for the government. Today I get a phone call saying that there was a “performance issue” raised and that I need to go into the office tomorrow (I normally work at a government post) and give them my government equipment and government ID contractor ID badge while they investigate. When I asked what that issue was I was told that they could not tell me anything else. How is this legal? It's extremely denigrating (and stressful) to be told you're being investigated but that the reason for this is somehow not something I can be privy to. If they were trying to protect someone who claimed I was harassing them, that would make some sense, but since I barely talk to anybody about anything other than…
Got this today.
Here are some facts about where a work. I work for a large company with lots of subdivisions. 10,000+ people working here. I make $25/hour at 35 hours a week, 9-5. I was offered a job today which I have accepted, at $35/hours but only working a minimum of 15-20 hours a week. There will be more shifts to pick up depending on business needs The new position maintains my benefits and pension plan even though it's fewer hours per week. The new position is more technical in nature and opens more doors for advanced opportunities. The new position is work from home after training. The new position rarely offers the same role in a full time position. There are maybe 20 people on the team and 3 are full time. I'm treating the new job as a stepping stone. While it offers slightly less pay overall, the benefit of…

Unwoke, and going broke
I live in Scandinavia and we still have snow. Even the tiniest amount of snowdrizzle is enough to unleash madness on the roads and close it down for many hours because of collisions and such. Today was utter chaos with the only road to work being closed by bus crashes and mass collisions. Guess who has to take the bus 40+ minutes to work? You guessed it, me. I looked at the news in the morning and I knew instantly that that I’ll probably be stuck in a commute for 1+ hour. But I gave it a try, because my boss absolutely hates WFH and says it destroy’s the ”office culture”, which I can’t give a flying rat shit about to be honest. I work as a dev and can perfectly work from on top of a crane as I can in the comfort of my own home. Actually I…
So my friend just got diagnosed with cancer. It’s stage 3 so they didn’t catch it early. After they got the news my friend had to call their boss and let them know they’ll be out of work for a while, and instead of asking like “hey are you okay?” or you know, just being a decent human being and giving them time to adjust to the news, the boss immediately went into “that sucks, keep me updated and let me know when you can come back ASAP.” Imagine getting news that you have cancer and your boss is just concerned about when you’re coming back to work, and this isn’t some like cushy desk job either, it’s a physically demanding housekeeping job. The last straw was their boss calling them again today asking if they want to work, my friend had to put their caseworker on the phone to…
Basically what the title says… I’m currently testing the waters and it’s really looking rough out there contrary to what I’ve been hearing on the street (so many jobs). I’ve really only been able to secure interviews and get attention from jobs in the 55k range. Any advice for me in the future? Background: MBA, PMP, Agile SAFe, 3 years of administrative operations experience 1.5 in an office setting and the other 1.5 for cyber security product management.
