I work for ShopRite and am a cart guy 2/3 nights a week. I make 1,100$ a month. Less after tax. I’m a veteran and currently sleeping on my abusive fathers couch for 600$ a month . Commission labor in this industry is borderline slave labor. The problem is you have these shops that charge $150, $180, $200 or more whilst keeping the techs pay at the same rate. For me it’s $23 per hour per job. My job requires me to use the internet to pull trouble codes and diagnostic procedures. Without it I can literally do nothing but sit at work and make $0. Can’t leave because I’m required to be there. When the internet goes down or when the IT company does updates or changes some setting, I get completely shut out sometimes for a whole day. It’s like working at McDonald’s and if the power is shut off and the boss tells you they can’t pay you but you’re required to be there. It’s so bullshit. I applied to a job on Indeed over a month ago and after no reply from the office, I withdrew the application. The office manager called me yesterday and asked me if I was still interested. I already have a full time job and need another job so I agreed to an interview. She then said I need to be there at 5pm today. She didn't ask if that was a good time/day or not, just demanded. She said “I have your resume in front of me here but you should print and bring a copy or two.”. As she continued speaking it just got worse. She told me I would have to sit and fill out their official job application (my favorite) and that I need to bring 4 business references printed out for her to contact same day. In the 1950s the world population was around 2.5 billion people. It is now around 8 billion people and it is expected to go to around 10 billion before balancing out (That is the theory anyway). So that is a 25% increase from were we are now. The reality is that I think people forget how many a billion is.. The next biggest species to us are the livestock species to feed us. (The conditions we create for mass farming are insanely brutal to witness) We have islands of garbage in the ocean. We have changed so many unique and wonderful landscapes into standardized crop production to keep us alive at these levels. In major population centers and industrial centers the air itself is poison and the smoggy haze is literally viewable. We have gotten rid of so much amazing biodiversity. It is gone.
