Long story short: I have a good job that pays fairly well and I enjoy. I have been there a few years, as a geek-minded individual I sometimes get bored, want new stuff etc. I get a request for an interview for a really interesting area, still same kinda thing but new equipment, stuff to learn etc. After all the stuff about the company and who they are and what they do, we get to the “what do you want to make to come to us” question. I said honestly I am asking you to tell me. I made “x” last year so that is this figure hourly plus ten percent. He choked and wanted to offer me under that. I work a salaried position, which I feel like is important info because I'm not being paid by the hour. My company in general is better than most in terms of “if you get your work done on time the rest doesn't matter much to us”. However there are still a lot of boomers in my company that I can see and overhear judging me when I scroll my phone at work while I have downtime. How is that any different than them spending time shooting the shit about fishing or politics or weather or whatever else? They aren't getting work done in that time either, so why am I being given the side eye just because I spend my free time at work differently? The reasoning they put is “under staffed”. That seems like a personal problem and not a me problem. I mean, it's not like I'm asking them? I'm letting them know my ass won't be there that day. They should feel lucky I even requested and not called out the day of. I'm going to basically tell them when I go in to work that if you schedule me that day (THATS NEXT MONTH) I'm not showing up. So, don't act surprised. Lol I don't know where surpervisors get off on thinking they can control your life. If they are “under staffed” like they say than hire more people.
