I feel like we’re being sold out…
Let me begin by saying I am 100% PRO UNION. Just very conflicted on this one so I want more view points. Which brings me to my confusion. I have been a member of a union with about 1.3 million members internationally for almost 2 decades. When I first joined we saw representatives at all hours of the day and night. Constantly. They would come in and just see how we were or if we needed anything at 3 am if they needed to. If there was a problem we made one call and someone would be in the car on the way ready to put some company lackey in his place (usually at the end a closed door ass ripping). It was great. After a few years though I could feel it change. They stopped coming in as much. We started waiting longer and longer for responses or call…
My peers apparently can’t document.
I work in a transitional living home. We have people coming out of incarceration who are looking for jobs and housing, and we offer various services and a place to stay with your own bedroom, mostly shared bathrooms, kitchens, etc. Since we work closely with the department of corrections, we are required to document everything that happens in the house. Did I talk to D about horror movies? Document it in his file. Does S have childhood trauma that we discussed? Document it. Did T go to church? Document. If we don’t document it, it didn’t happen. The rules are Simple. Yet every week we have a two hour meeting and inevitably, we spend half of it talking about how to document properly. It sucks. We all read the shift log and guest files. At least we are supposed to. So we know who is writing 3 paragraphs a day…
Sooo my boyfriend is a leasing agent for an apartment building and has to work Saturdays and Sundays. This past week the office was closed on Easter so he had the day off. However apparently this was unpaid so it counted as one of his days off and now he has to work on Thursday it Friday (which are his usual days off). I know it’s not that big of a deal but I just think it’s really fucked up – especially since he’s one of the few employees that has to work on the weekends since the apartment building is owned by a larger company. This is also the second time this has happened – he previously took a 3 day weekend off (Saturday – Monday) and they had him scheduled to work 9 days in a row when he was back. After realizing that was illegal they made…
How in the fu** is it legal for Texas employers to have a minimum wage of $2.13/hour as long as you make $5.12/hour in tips? I get that the total of that is the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hour, but Jesus Christ, that seems like such an unfair loophole.
Crisis with Trades?
Awhile back I applied to become an electrician at a trade school down the street. I come from low-income and was hoping to get some financial aid, unfortunately they didn't offer me anything and I had to pull my application. After that experience it's makes me question how accessible trades really are and the future of trades as a whole? Do you guys think we'll get to a point where economically people can't afford trades? Will we eventually run of out knowledgeable carpenters? I couldn't imagine a functioning society without this knowledge; I suppose we'd go back to shitting out the window then using toilets haha
First time poster, long time lurker
Hey all! I’m looking for some opinions on my current scenario. I’d also love to hear if anyone has dealt with a similar situation as well. In January I was told by my COO that I would be receiving a promotion at my annual review. Several of my peers were present as well and congratulated me. I told my friends and we celebrated as well. 20% pay increase. Now comes my review, along with a peer survey from HR. Out of 5 peers, one had some negative things to say about my personality, and the rest are 100% positive. Now, I’m on a PIP (personal improvement plan) and I do not get the promotion until I fulfill this plan in 30-60 days. I feel humiliated and embarrassed. Why not just tell me this before my promotion was announced? Do they expect me to chase this carrot with no guarantee? What…
