Hardly any raises and if your lucky its only 25 cents. Taking time off can be a hassle. Most companies want you to work nights, weekends and holidays. Lack of housing/affordable rent. A solid chunk of your pay goes to medical bills, a mortgage, rent, car payments, cell phone payments, etc. If you are a reliable employee you are likely to be called in if someone calls out of work and it's your day off. The French Uprising
'[I]ncreasingly, those we call ‘white-collar workers’ also suffer from managerial stultification, from the blind control of shareholders, from the idiocy if not toxicity of their bosses’ choices. Paying For My Own Pay Rise
Work in a restaurant in the UK in a salaried management position that also comes with quarterly performance related bonuses. From April 1st the national minimum wage is going up to £10.42 an hour so the company is looking at a wage increase for everyone across the board. The first three months of being here was very good for me and I was able to join in on projects for which I was hired and excel in them. Then the work there dried up and I was left with no projects to do sitting idly for weeks at a time. The manager began putting me on projects way out of my comfort zone in terms of programming language and subject matter with the promise that my colleagues would help train me, but truth be told no one had time or interest. Meanwhile my colleagues were making comments about how little I was…
