I started a remote job 2 weeks ago. Flew out of state for onboarding, have worked my butt of the past 2 weeks. My asking salary was $130k, when they sent me the offer it was $125 k. I accepted. Fast forward to this week where I heard back from my first choice in my job hunt, offering $60k more than the current gig. I accepted and let my current employer know right away. I offered to put together a 3 month strategy and said I was available 5 hrs a day until they filled the position. They said they felt I had been “distracted” and this new job explained that. I was gobsmacked. When I asked for an example they said I had dropped off of a sales call and then reconnected. Um, yeah. Because I was using my cell service for internet until I can get new wifi…

“Budget cuts” they said. I get 4 weeks paid then I'm unemployed. Luckily I've been looking for other jobs already and my managers are pretty good; been helping me navigate internal job postings to get moved. But it just sucks. It just fucking sucks.

Long version: I was visiting family in my hometown recently and ran into our neighbor of 20+ years. Nice guy but has always been sort of a traditionalist. He signed up for the navy out of high school, studied engineering and carved out a nice life for himself, which I respect. I always kinda knew him and his family as the wealthy folks on the block. After the reunion, he invited me out for a beer yesterday and I accepted. After some unrelated discussions he suddenly asked me why I (and much of the millennial generation from what I've gathered) are choosing not to have children? We don't seem to have any drive, we just…
This is such crap. I'm getting by by the skin of my teeth and I owe this much…. I would have never agreed to be a 1099 (non)employee if I knew this was the case. My employer said it would be easier to file their taxes this way because I was one of only 2 employees. What a sick joke. Guess I'll be calling the irs to set up a payment plan so I can continue to live in poverty
