Real talk… of those who frequent this sub, who works a shit job and who doesn't? Of those who do, why do you continue to do it when the job market is still pretty damn good. I'm interested in seeing the correlation between those in this sub and the kind of job they hold. By shit job, I mean you can't possibly retire off of it. I mean no disrespect. I worked shit jobs for the first 7 years of my post-college life.

Hello everyone, My wife just started a job at a retailer not too long ago. She set her availability to work to Friday-Monday, all mornings. This is a schedule to mirror my work schedule. Anyways, my wife put those hours into the computer and acknowledged that those were her true availability. Fast forward to tonight, she gets notifications that her schedule had been changed. Upon further investigation, the the front end team lead changed her true availability to work 6AM to 10PM, only being off Mondays and Fridays. Is there anything we can do to fight this? The company rhymes with FallMart if it helps
Be dumb folks
Dystopian work environment
Im sure this is pretty cliche but I work in a records job in a major hospital chain and I just learned a pretty dystopian thing. Apparently, they grade your work style and if you get too many negative points you get fired. Or if you do things like call in sick or are too slow some days even if there is a crapton of work, or “insubordination”. One worker said it was 6 points so apparently if I'm sick for 5 days its basically just fuck me. Or if I have a shit boss which I do and I back talk to her or call HR, odds are I would be the one to get in trouble for it. For my job I'm not really trained in clerical stuff, so I try to take my time with the papers, since they always say no mistakes but I apparently, I…
Up yours, Howard.
Companies that are desperate for workers
Ugh in need to rant. Just started a new job as a temp at this big company. I actually found out that my entire department is all temps, and there are a lot of temps in other departments as well. And the guy training me, who is an amazing worker, knows how to do a lot of things despite being there under a year, is still a temp. And when he talked to HR about it, they said they would investigate and let him know in 30 days. On top of that he said that another worker that no longer works there straight up asked our supervisor if he was being hired on, and our supervisor said they were not looking to hire any temps at all. So now I’m over here with a big thumb in my big gaping asshole feeling really dumb. It almost (very much) feels so…
Claiming time back
So I'm a manager at a non private institution. At my grade we don't get over time pay, but it's generally just work your job. I always try to claim back time I've worked above and beyond. So I'll finish early sometimes or take a long lunch etc. I tell my team to do the same thing, and those entitled to over time, I pay over time. I was chatting to a colleague outside my area today and it's a super busy time for her right now. I said 'you're gonna claim the time back right?' And it hadn't even occurred to her. Hopefully, I have made her do so in future! We actually work in a good sector outside USA so get 31 days of leave a year plus public holidays, and full paid sick leave. Also very unionised and protected. BUT, and I say this as someone that…
The other day I posted here venting about my Mendy's job. One thing I said is that having good managers doesn't make the job itself suck any less. Well, I actually don't even have good managers apparently. Actually, I'm starting to resent them. One in particular has been having way too much attitude lately and I really can't deal with a bitchy manager on top of being burnt out from working at a very high volume fast food place. Today, I got a text from a manager saying that I'm supposed to come in today. Apparently, when I got Monday off, I was supposed to.. make up for that by working today. NO ONE TOLD ME THAT. Absolutely no one told me that at ALL. I looked at the schedule yesterday, and it said I am off Wednesday, so I didn't come in. It has been a REALLY long time…
