Let me start by saying this isn't happening to me, but a partner of mine needs some advice. So my partner, we'll call her S, works for an organization. Recently, the manager has been mismanaging things to an extreme level. To the point where I think the board may have hired her to sabatoge the place, but thats beside the point. In the most recent fiasco, managment has “forgotten” to pay the health insurance, so the entire company is without coverage “until the issue is resolved”. We're in Washington state, and I'm fairly certain giving full time employees access to health care is in state law. Is there anything S can take to L&I to get this sorted out? S has not had coverage since February 1st.

Once you resign, standard employment terms, which one must sign at the time of joining, states that once your probation is over, if you wish to resign you have to serve 3 months notice period from the date of resignation. Else, there will be equivalent deduction from your final salary settlement for the number of days shortfall. However, all companies insist like crazy that you must join within a maximum of 30 days from the date of issue of offer letter. Else they threaten to withdraw the offer letter. So, one ends up paying a monetary penalty to move to a new job. Best part – barring very senior hire or hiring of Ivy League or equivalent alumni, the new company won't buy out the existing company's notice period. Views please.
Universal Income Program (UIP)
I believe this should be talked more often, but I think we have forgotten that we live in the digital age of technology where we are suppose to be working less for more leisure time. Why aren’t we given a Universal Income to compensate for the loss of jobs that have been replaced by automated check out machines, or robotic assembly lines? Why haven’t we been using Corporations as a “machine” to generate wealth and dispense it into the economy as a form of Universal Income to allow Americans to live a comfortable life style without having to work a day in their life? It’s 2023 and we still live as if it was the era of pre-internet…. We have became comfortable with living a life style surrounded by governmental corruption to destroy our futures and France has been the only country with the attitude to fight back? Why have…
They post “motivational quotes” like this all of the time.. Feels like we're being indoctrinated into materialism so we get locked into a rat race lifestyle. I'm sorry but, but my family & my time are very very important things to me. Escalades get repo'd and houses get foreclosed. https://preview.redd.it/ig2ajx2lebqa1.jpg?width=1788&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=b94867192d0012c66daff640abb89e9fab31983a
I am lucky enough to work in a very chill job. I just wanted to share in case others are in my situation. I don’t AT ALL mean to complain because I am very blessed to have this, but I also feel unfulfilled and don’t know if I want to spend my time on this path. (I do ultimately want to have children and stay home with them Til they grow up, so idk how lucrative and idea a career change is. In this career, I can at least make good money with minimal effort). I spent my early 20s in large companies that expected a lot of OT, after I got my designation and moved into industry, I landed a really sweet gig. I am a controller and I work about 2-3 hours a day on average, I have meetings often every week and a very social atmosphere. I…
Took a job and was told it was going to be leadership role, changes were needed and outside perspective was wanted, lots of investment was expected and welcome. Job is nothing like that, complete opposite in fact.
Hey antiwork folks – I'm sure a lot of you are aware of just how horrible Starbucks, particularly CEO Howard Schultz, has been surrounding the efforts of Starbucks workers to unionize. (And yes, Schultz just stepped down, but his successor has made it clear he idolizes Schultz and his “leadership” – plus we all know Schultz is not really going anywhere in terms of control). We wanted to provide an opportunity for Starbucks customers & other members of the public to say that they support the workers in their efforts. We know that this will only have an impact if we can get a ton of signatures, which is why I'm sharing it here. Anything folks can to do share this and get support would be so appreciated: https://chng.it/bvvszhL9 Even if you don't particularly care about Starbucks or have never been to a store, the union-busting activities that they are…
I have a bad attitude
Today I am being told I have to do this online training, without compensation, or I will be terminated. I am not hourly and I am not salary. I only get paid for the work that the advisor sells and that I complete correctly. I have won the award for top hour producer since November 2020 to today March 2023. I only get a raise every two years. I have been told that a good quarterly review does not mean a raise. I have been told to not expect a raise every year. I have been told if we do get raises, it will be cents not dollars. I have been here 8 years, with multiple certifications. They paid a sign on bonus for a new hire, and at their one year anniversary of working here they got a $4 raise to make $2 more than I do, without any…
