Can a company request you take Annual leave for an IT issue that prevents you from working that they can’t fix?

The issue has only been on-going for 4 days but it pretty much leaves me sitting around doing nothing which only affects me, not my other team members who can continue to work. My manager got in touch and mentioned that if the error persists I may have to take AL until it's resolved. I had a quick Google and according to fair work AUS a request for annual leave can only be made by the company if: The company is in a mandatory shut down period or The employee has an excessive amount of annual leave. Neither applies in this situation, as I have used up just about all of my AL recently, hence not wanting to use anymore for an issue outside of my control. What makes the situation slightly more difficult is I work outside of regular business hours so all of my communication with IT has…

Is it unethical to lie about a previous hourly wage if it increases a current offer?

I transferred to a different location with my company, and from corporate to a franchise so they don’t have access to this information anyway. They initially wanted to start me with a dollar increase from the wage I told them I was being paid- which was actually inflated a bit, but I was able to get a few dollars more than that original offer. Part of me thinks I wouldn’t have gotten as much for this new offer if they knew my previous wage wasn’t as much. Was this unethical? Could I get in trouble if they somehow found out?

Most employers don’t pay enough to live close by

When you really think about it. Most employers pay in a way that requires you to commute in from a cheaper area. Pretty much I wish I could make the money I make without having to drive to Indianapolis for work. I hate going to the city for any reason, especially when my work strips me of my ability to carry most weapons. That being said, my work pays $10ish an hour more than anything I could make in the community I live in. That isn’t unique to my work as much as it is a symptom of me commuting to a more expensive area for work while living in a cheaper area, like most commuters do. Few people live in an expensive area and commute to a cheaper area for work. I just wish there was work locally in my community that afforded me the life I’d like to…

Questions About Unemployment

So I was working 35 hours a week consistently from about mid 2020 to around October 2021 for a major food chain. In October 2021, we got a new GM. We didn't get along well and he slowly reduced my hours to about 1 shift a week over the next few months. I quit in February 2022 and have been doing gig work since. I know now that this was a textbook case to be qualified for unemployment and i regret not taking advantage of it. This happened in Colorado. I've never had to file an unemployment claim so my apologies if any of this sounds silly. My questions are: Is it possible to collect unemployment even though I've been doing gig work? Is it possible to collect unemployment from a case that should have been opened last year? Do I have any ground to stand on here? Gig work…

Quit work b/c I saw coworker pooping in the bathroom I was supposed to clean.

I quit working at a physical therapy clinic. First of all, I wasn’t even supposed to clean the bathroom in the clinic as an aide but I did it for sick patients. And next week, I saw a coworker coming in on his off- day to poop in the bathroom I was supposed to clean. This is insanity.

How do you avoid letting your boss get to your emotions?

I’m a good worker. I dislike adding responsibilities without a pay raise. I do just enough but if I feel like it, I will do extra only if I want to. I tend to avoid getting too involved with work related stuff because I have it in my mind that ‘that work place is not my business’ it’s simply a service transaction. I get paid per the work I agreed to do. That being said, I am starting to get caught up with my boss’s hostility. He is a man with multiple hats, doesn’t know how to delegate. When he does ask for people to help him out, he comes off rude. His problem is he is a “yes man” and expects everyone to be the same. I was able to deal with his micromanaging because I just think to myself “alright man you want to be in do know…
