I need somewhere to vent because I feel like I’m losing my mind I want to start with I’m in the US in a state that offers decent state subsidized health insurance but it’s still kind of pricey depending on your wages. I manage the kitchen in a restaurant with plans of expanding to a second location. My role then would be to manage the kitchen in both locations. At the beginning of my job my partner and I split so I needed to move. The owners (a married couple) of the restaurant were nice enough to rent me an apartment in a building they own for a slight discount but I still pay $2,000 a month. Before the apartment I was given $250 a month for health insurance stipend which the husband of the couple said we renegotiated I would not receive the stipend anymore because of the apartment…

Hi I'm getting sick of my job and I believe I'm going to lose it in 6 weeks anyway because they fired the cool manager who was the only reason I stayed an extra 8 months longer than expected (I got and started another job, then this manager started and ALL the issues at the job were solved so I stayed), and now the guy who gave me 6 weeks off on a whim because we were slow, granted me a grace period for being late because I live 27 miles away and suffer from Time Blindness through ADHD (my employers are Chinese and have difficulty understanding this concept so it was hard to get it across even with a psychiatrists note), when before I was at risk of losing my job for being late 30 seconds to 2 minutes on days I even WAS late (it's a 7-10 minute…

But it was also clear that an all-round increase in wealth threatened the destruction—indeed, in some sense was the destruction—of a hierarchical society. In a world in which everyone worked short hours, had enough to eat, lived in a house with a bathroom and a refrigerator, and possessed a motor-car or even an aeroplane, the most obvious and perhaps the most important form of inequality would already have disappeared. It was possible, no doubt, to imagine a society in which WEALTH, in the sense of personal possessions and luxuries, should be evenly distributed, while POWER remained in the hands of a small privileged caste. But in practice such a society could not long remain stable. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty would become literate…

Hi everyone, today our assistant manager told us if there is someone new to help them out because if you don't and they end up not knowing what to do, they might get frustrated and not show up to work next shift, and I was curious if it happens at your job too? In my previous job, I had seen a girl and she started a day before me, but I was confused why she didn't show up the next day. Come to find out, she never showed up to her 2nd shift, and this job was really terrible. Each month, they would have 5-7 people leave, and I also left after 2 weeks because the job I had was awful.
Is this girl trying to get fired?
Hey. My friend recently got promoted to manager and one of the first things they’re asking her to do is either figure out or fire one of her workers. Basically, the worker is very new and it’s a WFH customer service position. She needs to be able to take incoming calls. One of the requirements for the job was having your own computer you can connect to a virtual machine through. Well, when the girl started working a couple months ago she had a Windows computer but then she decided to upgrade and got a Mac. Our programs don’t work on Mac and this was made clear to her during her interview and when she said she wanted to get a new machine. My friend managed to get her approved for getting a company laptop which isn’t usually given to her rank, so she can keep working from home. The…
