I actually enjoy working (since it gives me something to do) But under capitalism if I don't work enough or take a job that doesn't pay enough I won't be able to afford basic needs. I hoping for something like basic universal income or a strong safety net in case I start having losses. With the way the economy is going I'm worried that I won't have much in my 40s or 30s What are your thoughts?
Always punished for something
I work with food. At a hospital. You have to sign waivers when you work with food regardless stating you will inform people if you have stomach bug symptoms and cannot work for 24 hours after the symptoms. I had a stomach bug last month. Called out for 2 days because I was still vomiting. Even got a doctors note. Came back to work only to be told my doctors note didn’t matter and wasn’t needed. And that if I called out or missed work on any of the days I’m scheduled for, for the next 2 month after that incident that I would be terminated. Well whatever I guess. There’s literally nothing I could have done to not get sick. Well lucky me my mother is sick as hell and has missed the last week of her work because of it. She’s now given it to me. I’m in…
Literally utterly ridiculous. I can’t stand it. I’m sick as HELL. I’ve spent my whole morning texting every single one of my coworkers if they can cover my shift tonight. They all say no, of course. I call my manager and say this, and she tells me I have to call 6 surrounding stores to ask for coverage! Apparently it’s company policy but to me it sounds ridiculous. I’ve had to do this in the past and when they answer they’re just like, “oh, yeah no sorry. Bye” because they themselves are busy and don’t want to spend the time asking their employees to cover a shift at a store 30 miles away. Yes, I work retail. Yes, it’s bullshit.
