Two years ago my company announced with much excitement that we would be starting a very lucrative partnership with Saudi Arabia. However, we’re a fairly progressive company, so this did not go over well with a good portion of the staff. As you would expect, the executives and senior management – with dollar signs in their eyes – rolled out the usual excuses such as “If we show them our culture it might improve theirs”. The project started despite these misgivings, and a team was set up within our software engineering department to carry out the work. After the first year, it became apparent that the work was much harder than anticipated. Not only that, but rumours started circulating that people working on the project were having a miserable time. To compensate, more and more staff were pulled off their existing work and thrown into this project – some very…
what makes a good antiworker?
hi everyone. roughly a year ago i made a psuedo-vent post about how having to work despite being disabled left me unable to take care of myself and in need of professional care. now like all of you, i think the labor we do in todays world is vapid and destructive, but i still believe there is fulfilling work to be done in the name of a better world. im telling you all of this because i finished that post with a promise, that when i could stand on my own two feet again, i would pay back my debts and start taking what little action i could to fight against the way we labor. so my question is: how? over the past few months ive been spending every second i have teaching myself to code, i think spreading the knowledge of basic automation could give people the agency to…
Handed over my notice!
For context: I work in an engineering company that works within the nuclear power industry, we used to be a team of 3 plus 1 intern, in September 2022 my co-worker got a promotion within the same company, she was forced to work both roles until December, when my Boss decided to move on. They did not hire anyone and I've been doing everyone's job since January without prospect for a promotion or anything as the big boss has been pretending to be re-thinking the whole dynamic of the team. Not being papa's first rodeo I knew exactly where the whole thing is going so I went out and applied for a few roles, we work in a very specialised niche so I quickly got a role with one of our main customers with a 25% pay raise, less hours, more benefits, and higher grade. Gave my Notice yesterday, and…
Cold calling in meetings
I work in a big organisation and they insist on cold calling people in meetings, it’s so annoying as I have social anxiety and find it difficult to control my physical symptoms when called upon. If I want to answer a question I will raise my hand, I’m quiet and reserved! I don’t get the point of cold calling I feel like it’s a form of bullying.
Availability?
I went back to serving after 5 years of factory work. During my interview, I was asked for availability, I told them that my availability was open but I'd prefer to have Mondays off. They asked how many hours I would like, I told them at least 30. They hired me. My first week out of training, I have 13 hours. I'm 36 fucking years old… if you didn't have full time hours available, just say that. They still also have job postings on indeed for the same position.
Was gonna write about my job a bit, but honestly? Doesn't even fucking matter. It's bullshit for ANY job. This is inhumane and one of the many reasons they can't keep anyone. Same job that disciplined me for not being at work after a car wreck. I wish I were a “valuable” enough worker to move the hell out of this country to one where workers have rights.
Hi. I’m at the beginning of my career. I work for an international company, making less than ideal
