A little PSA I’ve been inspired to make regarding empty employer promises.

Yesterday I commented on a post asking what you think you should be paid to make you feel appreciated as an employee and it made me realize I'm in a situation that others may be in one day. So hopefully this post means something to someone that may be struggling with relocation. Late last year I relocated from metro NY (LI) to MD (Bmore county) to work as a conveyor mechanic for one of the largest wine and spirits distributors in the US. I've been with the company for 6 years now and this seemed like an incredible opportunity for me to get the fuck out of NY and plant some roots in a new state with my wife to be, all while staying with the same company that's taken care of me since 2017. We spend weeks thinking about this move and whether or not it's a good idea.…

I took this as “We don’t want to pay extra employees to clean, so we’ll have a skeleton crew to save payroll”

Of course they don't mention NOT having daily service upon check in and only have this small sticker. How about you just hire people and pay properly?

air b&bs: a rant

today was horrible. warning: v long. i work for a air b&b company. they have a bunch of listings and i turn them over. which means i clean them and get it ready for the next check in. full on disclaimer: i love this job. i love cleaning and i love the freedom of going in after 10 and ending before 3. i love making it pretty and homey for the next people to experience. but today. today wasn’t it. the cleaning fee you pay doesn’t all go to us. we get paid by how long a place should take to clean. it averages from 2-7 hours, depending on the size. so if a house takes 3h, we only get paid for the 3h and if we go over that, it’s unpaid. the place i got assigned to today was so gross, i had to ask admin to send help…

I'm most productive in my hobby that I'm passionate about in the morning but I have to use all my energy for work and by the time I come home I'm too exhausted to do my hobby! I exist to work and that's it

“Nobody wants to work anymore/young people are lazy” Rant

I typed this up during the holidays (written on Nov. 27, 2022) and planned to share my work experience so far so you could reference this to stubborn family members who insist “this generation just doesn't want to work these days”. Life got busy so here it is now. Anecdotes only go so far but I know y'all will resonate with it. I started working when I was 17 at a daycare part-time while in high school. I was very lucky to start at $15/hr. I kept that job for two summers after finishing HS while attending college. By the end of my time there, my pay was increased to $17/hr. In college I picked up a student job on campus at the library. While working part-time at the library, and attending classes as a full-time student, I also worked at 2 unpaid internships relevant to my degree. In…
