Perceptions of a good job

I’m fascinated to know what differences exist between what Europeans and American’s view a good job as. Each culture seems to value different aspects of remuneration differently. Discuss and grade (A-F) the following along with if you’re from the US or EU+UK £35k/$43k per annum 37 hours per week 35 days PTO Flexi Time (Turn up and leave when you want so long as each month hours average 37). Time off in lieu for extra hours worked 20% combined pension contributions (employee pays 6.5%) WFH with flexibility to go in to the office if you want

Nonviolent Resistance to dishonest corporate behavior a viable new antiwork tactic?

Without getting too deep into it, I’ve been trying to report corporate fraud in my field of work to the media and government. I’ve done it in my own name and even taken to Reddit to share the story. One of the side benefits of what I’m doing is it benefits the private sector workers in my field. Since I began publishing about the corps in my field, something called the copy rate has quadrupled for some people, succinctly, they can do 1/4 the work for the same money. Antiwork probably sees why I’m sharing the story now. 🙂 Since I started publishing nobody’s sued or threatened. There was one threat early on (2021) and nothing followed. As it turns out, corporations are terrified of people exercising their free speech rights. If you want to read more about this, I did a post called “Breaking the System” in the lost…

Wage theft, but not me…no proof

My adult daughter go a “job” working phone support for national brands. It is 100% remote which probably explains her reluctance. This is a company that uses a contractor model, but several things scream misclassification to me. There is also huge wage theft that is making mama bear very mad. Each new contract anyone is accepted on requires a month of unpaid training. This is on the company schedule and I think it may involve actually working with some additional supervision. After this month of “voluntary” training then they start being treated like contractors. They can set their own hours and get paid as work comes in. More like an Uber model. This is attractive, because WFH positions for kids with very little education or experience. I feel like this is exploitation of vulnerability. Sooo… my question is, considering I have very limited information and zero proof, what can I…

Walked out on my job today

This just isn't the life for me. I've never liked working, the thought of having to do this every single week for most of my life makes my heart ache. This doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel right to have to be forced to work 8 or more hours just so I won't starve and die in a ditch somewhere.. But at this point that's just what I might do. It saps the joy from me. It saps my will to live. If I could do part time I would. 4 hours isn't so bad… Still makes me depressed but it's manageable. You get in, get out, continue with the rest of your day… Unfortunately I can't do that anymore… I live with my mother and rent with up so she needs my help. Part time money isn't enough my whole paycheck just went straight to bills… I'm 19 I…
