Is using the word “umm” as a filler unprofessional… ? I’m not bothered by it.My client who complained is pregnant and seemed to be having a manic episode. She has mental illness and she is living at the homeless shelter I work at and well … not all of them are mentally ill but the main program deals with mental Health and substance abuse so people with those issues , who are homeless, often go to the shelter which is affiliated with the main facility. She said she doesn’t like that word because she comes from an educated family. I didn’t catch what she said at first. She appeared manic and was speaking rapidly. But anyway … is using the word “um” unprofessional? I’m a case manager. I think she was probably dealing with her own issues.
tl;dr – I have a base wage, but I work in a role with a 10% bonus for shift work. I got presented with a 5% raise (which is low considering how much I accomplished last year but it's something). Before the 5% raise has even kicked in yet, they're offering me a job in the company that's much more challenging, higher visibility, and is considered 2 levels higher than my current job. Their excuse for low-balling is “but you don't have to do shift work anymore”. I'm pissed. … I won’t go into a lot of specifics but in my company, every role has a number to represent its “level” and they go…
Question about job hopping
So am not sure if this would be the right place to ask it but am going to do so anyhow. A bit of background. I work in IT support mainly outsourced. Living in The Netherlands.6 months ago I quit the outsourcing company to get a 15% raise when I would switch to a different one. I did request a salary raise but of course, this was denied. So I switched jobs. Now working 6 months further at this company and getting some certifications (MS-900, AZ-900, ITIL v4, and AZ-104). Again with this new experience at the company I am outsourced in. I have more responsibilities, 2nd line support, on site support, and migration quality manager (kind of).I requested a salary review again. Again, of course, it was denied stating my own growth is more important than the salary. Keeping in mind that I paid and studied for all the…
The Federal Reserve after lecturing the US about inflation is printing a bunch of money to bailout venture capitalists. Wonderful.
Negative Two Weeks Notice.
I've mentioned this before but I'd like to recommend this again to everyone. Your employer doesn't pay out your saved sick time when you leave. So when you are getting a new job, call in sick to the old job. I once went two weeks at a new job before quitting the old one. Effectively giving negative two weeks notice.
