Is the company providing a benefit?

If my health insurance is a benefit of working for a company, why do I have to pay for it? I understand that they are saying we get a discount on health care from the group. But if the Labor and Statistics is including the amount I pay in benefits as my annual pay. Why do I feel cheated? Like I am paying for my benefits that you say you are providing me. Not we offer a discount on health care and other stuff.

can you get fired after a suicide attempt?

This is on the behalf a friend. I don't know what the most appropriate subreddit would be. She recently attempted a paracetamol overdose and is currently in hospital due to potential liver failure. Her recovery could take up 3 months. What are the legal repercussions at her job? She works part time in retail. Extra context: – she has worked there for a little over two years. – she's 20. – it's a five person team. Manager, assistant manager, three sales assistants. She is a sales assistant. – last year, the assistant manager was off for around 6 months due to an gallbladder operation and recovery. – this is in England, UK.

Genuinely curious: are off-site work trips mandatory? Am I in the right to decline?

My company schedules around 1-2 off site trips per year that require travel. The MO is generally for us to gather as a group, there’s a short presentation, and then you get 1-2 more days to do whatever you want in the places we go. The owner rents some air bnbs, groups of people bunk up in shared rooms, and there’s a good amount of drinking involved. Leading up to the event the emails sharing the info are strongly worded that they’re mandatory to attend. My question to you all – am I within my right to decline to go? I honestly do not like traveling, nor do I enjoy the entire idea of having to share a house with my co workers. Add to the fact that I don’t really drink much anymore, and these trips just end up frustrating me and have me kinda fucking off on my…

being made to work on PTO

Manager is messaging me with tasks I need to complete while on PTO he approved. I'm doing the job of 5 people, 3 of those people's jobs I'm doing I have not been trained in. I'm so overwhelmed and overworked I haven't gotten a raise. How do I tell him tomorrow I'm going on medical leave? It hasn't been approved yet but my company said the first step is to tell your manager. I want to go into as minimal detail as possible. Advice?

corporate always picks favorites, it sucks when all of your hard work goes unappreciated

Like some managers are straight up assholes. They done it for too long or whatever, and the workplace has become the Office to them. It is all one big game where I work hard and do my absolute best, but my work goes unnoticed, they treat you like shit and they pick that one guy who they think is special. I hate all of this so much. I wish there could be something to prevent this from occurring in the first place. Everyone needs a pay raise, everyone deserves benefits, we don't enjoy being wage slaves to you.

Is it normal for yearly bonus ranges to be unachievable?

After months of telling us that we could earn up to %10 of our salary as a performance based bonus we were finally shown the graduated scale a day before the bonuses were issued. Our reviews were scaled 1-5 where a 5 corresponds to the full 10% and a 3.75 corresponds to 2%. I got a 4.6 which is only 7.4%. What's got me about to put our CFO on blast is that in my review my manager told me I performed the highest and he only didn't give me all 5s since he was told to dial it back. I assume this happens everywhere but damn is it frustrating.

OT and Insurance catchup?

So I started this job in January, at 21/ hr. Recently, I've been getting OT, and it's paid at 31.50. Isn't it supposed to be time + a half? I realize it's only a 50 cent difference, but that could be more money in my pocket. Second issue, I signed up for the insurance and disability, the whole 9. My normal deduction should be 70.90, except they never started taking it out. So now they want to deduct extra from my check to “catch up” on what I didn't pay since signing up. On 4 checks, they want to take out 115.27. On 2 more, they want to take out 95.90. I have quite a bit of financial strain at the moment, or I wouldn't be taking the time to write this out. What can I do, if anything? Location is Georgia, US.

Stressed! Not sure what to do

Manager is new and unskilled (even gets me to make pivot tables for his reporting work) & dumps work as he can’t get other team members to listen to him and he doesn’t want his inefficiency to be seen at leadership levels. There are months where I am allocated twice or sometimes thrice the number of projects which eventually makes me stretch hours and work weekends and is leading to frustration. I have tried highlighting the imbalance of allocated work even to other leads, but there is no solution and all I am asked is to wait a while till some restructuring happens. There are times, my manager will give me a teams call and ask me to finish the additional allocated work while on the call so that he knows I am working on it on priority and then I need to complete my assigned work in the remaining…
