4 day work week is a trap

So my place of work has a 4 day work week. And it's awful! I work ten hour days with the exact same break time. One 30 min lunch and three 10 minute breaks. Not to mention the fact that if you dare to call in sick without sick days more than twice you will be fired. And you can't call in for ANY reason for the first 90 days of being hired or you will be fired. It's exhausting. I'm already looking for a more traditional job. This 4 day work week crap is definitely not better Edit: this is in the United states.

Manager tried to tell me i HAD to volunteer for work on a day i have off

We got a new manager at my facility about 4 or 5 months ago. Before she came we worked Monday-Thursday, 6-430, occasionally fridays when asked at least a month in advance. When January rolls around, she tells us we all need to put in our vacation days for the year, and that no two people can be off at the same time. Everyone made a fuss but eventually we gave in, my team all lives each other and we saw it as a small change. Mid February, word starts going around about there being new docs that will be working every Friday. We pull our 40 hrs in those 4 days, when we all start asking her about it she won’t tell us outright. Eventually we have a meeting and she tells us that Fridays will ONLY be voluntary, and that if we have something we need to do on…

Little ditty that’s been in my head past few months

I'm so tired, I'm so sore, I can't take this anymore. Boss makes a dollar, while I get a dime, it just ain't worth my time. Shoeshine. We need to bring back anti work songs.

Was let go among others (job cuts) while out due to an upcoming abdominal surgery. Large corporation, and after bringing in ideas that led to hundreds of millions in benefit, they ousted me while sick. Is this even legal? Will I no longer have healthcare in 30 days?

conflicting feedback during job performance – permanent contract denied

Earlier this year I started working for the university as a quality officer. In the 8 months I’ve been working here, I’ve been getting no negative feedback. In fact, people were happy with the work I was doing. Furthermore, I have no real supervision, so I choose my own projects and there haven’t been any complaints- even when I checked with coordinators and managers. Today, however I sat down with the director of our faculty only to hear I was not being offered a permanent contract because all of a sudden there were ‘concerns’. My work was too superficial, they felt I maybe didn’t fit in in the faculty. They decided to open up my job post but encouraged me to apply again. Where was this feedback months ago? I have proof in emails and my first performance review there were no remarks. Honestly, I feel there is a political…

posting jobs to placate overworked employees

A quote is here: One-third of the managers who said they advertised jobs they weren’t trying to fill said they kept the listings up to placate overworked employees. Somehow this just seems like a new low to me. IDK why I am surprised. Article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/that-plum-job-listing-may-just-be-a-ghost-3aafc794
