Small rant from a store manager.
I'm a general manager of a chain gas station/convenience store on top of being a caregiver for my husband who's paralyzed. I don't have much power in the grand scheme of things, I can't give raises or make any type of big changes but I try my best to make my store a decent place to work. Corporate definitely doesn't pay enough but I can't change that either. I don't require doctors notes, I don't care if someone checks their phone or scrolls for a minute if we're not busy, I don't write people up for being late or make them try to cover their own shift if they call in, and I don't ask for details as to why someone is calling off. And now I'm getting shit from some of them (mainly my assistant managers) for being TOO lenient and not punishing people by giving out writes ups.…
The French Understand That Work Sucks
Dumb question, I know, but I need some solace. I have an MS in my field and have about 6 years OTJ experience in a wide range from my field. While I'm human and make mistakes, I feel like in my recent endeavors I've had much less focus because of micromanagement from the last few jobs I've been hired for. In the last year I've had a few jobs and have had trouble staying at one place because I refuse to be treated like shit. In your experience does micromanagement cause you to make more errors while doing your job? Or am I the problem?
regular shifts are boring.
The French have HIT THE STREETS! If they get away with pushing 2 more years into the retirement age, they’ll get away with more. I love to see the pushback. London has followed by protesting the cost of living in mass quantities. I live in the United States and feel hopeless a lot of the time. But I can’t help but feel inspired and hopeful. It feels like a worldly revolution is upon us. I wish we’d follow their lead. But man, does that feel like a glitter of some kind of hope. The world is fed up with the 1%.
