my work gave us unlimited vacation time
Sounds great at first, until you think about it. Workers who fear losing their job or ones that are competing for promotions are not going to use this. There will no longer be PTO credit to give out when workers quit. Workers will not feel they have to use their accumulating PTO because there won't be any at risk of losing any. This is many wins for the company. I feel like its a trap. They call us family and say they trust us to make decisions on how much time off to take. I'd like to request the next ten years off, for my mental health, family. I'm sure they will be fine with that… There should be laws to stop this, but up until this evil corporate idea came about, the idea of giving employees unlimited vacation sounds crazy. But if you put some thought into it, this puts…
Hey, At my current job I’ve been trying to request a reaosnable accommodation for my autism but I’m always told directly it’s not a problem to them and they have more important issues. I’ve seen some super pro comments about how to approach them and not get fucked over or have something to use later. If anyone can help, specifically my issue is other employees doing petty work pranks towards me such as turning cars stereo volume up so when I come into work to use them I get a blast of music, or spraying perfume since I noted it’s hard for me to be in a car full of allergens – they claim my request are unreasonable for a shared car. So I have a meeting with HR.
Anti-Meeting
I told the dean of the program I work in that I hate meetings. In light of that, who else despises meetings like I do? I hate meetings because it’s just endless talking and more people coming up with more ideas to talk about and sometimes (most of the time) make the meetings longer. Maybe it’s because I’m young and have a short attention span, but in conclusion, I HATE MEETINGS.
“If you have a LinkedIn account and list XXXXX as your employer I’d like to ask you to remove it. We are seeing several scams occur where spoofed emails come through to change payroll records, bank accounts used for direct deposit etc… Not good.” I saw one of those spoof emails that came in purporting to be from me, asking that my direct deposit info be changed. It was not super-convincing (although our HR person fell for it). I think the company needs to be on its guard and put some guard rails in place. We are a small outfit. It's not hard to confirm with a phone call or text message that an employee initiated that change. Not my responsibility – and there is no way I'm going to remove my current employment info from social media. How else would I ever get a new job than by letting…
I want to get a work from home job. But I know that some remote jobs have you be on camera and monitor your every move and that is not something I want. I know there are also some jobs where workers can get all their work done in 15 hours a week and have the remaining 40 hours to do what they want. Which one is it and which one do you do?
