I’ll probably get downvoted to hell and back for this but I took a new job in early January. They have (like too many companies in America) a probation period before I am allowed to enroll in healthcare benefits and I cannot afford COBRA from my last job. I also get no sick time, cannot work from home, and don’t get to use PTO for six months. So I am sitting here at work coughing my head off. I can’t go to a doctor without the insurance to see if it’s Covid or to get treated for it, and I cannot take a sick day. I don’t feel bad. The company built this dumb ass policy, I’m just playing along with it.
I just started this position 2 weeks ago. I work 40 hour work weeks in an office M-F 8am-4pm. I have BPD, depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, and a shit ton of other problems. I've had the same therapist since I was 16 (I'm 22 now) and she really helps me out. But I lost my insurance for a couple months but I have it back now, so I'm trying to start therapy again. Her only available time is 11am. Two times a month on thursdays. Idk how to bring this up to my boss. I'm nervous. I need therapy (like very badly) but I can't afford to lose this job (even tho I hate it). I'm 22w pregnant as well, so they know I'll be going on unpaid maternity leave for a while in July. ugh HELP!
It’s a threat to the lower and middle class that your job is the only thing preventing you from their life instead. Fuck up, and this could be you. There is no safety net for getting fired, your healthcare goes away, your rent can’t get paid, and now you’re on the streets.
Conflicted…
Having had panic attacks from managers in the past, I’m really happy to say I really enjoyed my last job. I was comfortable; I liked who I worked with. I had a great set schedule. BUT my last job was a longer commute, overworking me, not respecting my time off, and had an uncertain future given that the parent company was bought out ( by the company that caused my panic attacks in the past). Essentially, they were treating me like management, responsibility wise, without paying me for management. So I sought out a promotion at another company and received it! After having started the other job, I think I might of made a mistake. This new job has a better salary, title, the commute is shorter too. This job is also working alongside one of my long time friends. However, the schedule is absolutely horrible and I’m afraid, being…
Why can’t we start things?
I was chatting with a friend about different companies and how they operate. Are regular people able to start their own banks, or insurence companies? I'm more likely to leave my money in a bank if they gave me higher returns for the money they invested. Also, trickle down economics, why not make that an actual thing? I thought that meant that when company makes profit, it gets divided into bonuses, raises, and promotions for everyone in the company.
