Very Disheartening

A former coworker of mine, who was my supervisor when I started at my hospital job 20 years ago, was recently let go. She had moved into another position where she had to work with insurance companies to get referrals for a specific test related to our field. Someone was mad she was still being paid for her clinical position (same as mine) even though she was not working in that position, disregarding the fact that her clinical experience was how she was able to explain and get referrals/reimbursement from insurance companies. So, then they decided to move this specific referral job to some main referral center in the system. With no warning, no severance, nothing, they let her go. She'd been with the system for THIRTY years! She's working now because her former boss (not the one who made decision to let her go, but her direct boss) felt…

Do you find a pay raise of +$1/hr insulting?

I recently asked for a raise At my full time job. (I work in the trades) we’re short handed and the wage just isn’t livable (by todays standards especially.) They gave me another dollar which i accepted, but I was hoping for at least 2 or 3+ more an hour. Obviously it’s old news that companies really just don’t value your time. I just hyped myself up thinking it would be different this time and they would actually pay me a decent wage. When I was hired they gave me the whole “after 90 days we can see about bumping you up etc” speech but nothing came on day 91. A dollar just seems so insincere to me. And they always make it seem like they’re stretching themselves so thin for another 40 dollars (before taxes) a week. Like what am I supposed to kiss your ring and bow to…

I bet it does. if people were paid enough to afford the cost of living there I’m sure the problem would fade quickly.

Shout out to my coworker who has been working a week and a half straight.

Doesn’t get a day off till tommorow but has been working since the beginning of last week, usually around 11:00-6 She will commonly be the only shift lead on staff, over the last week and a half I have watched literally get more and more depressed. She is commited to her job because of her relationship (platonic) with the owner, but they take advantage of her because corporate companies always will. She deserves so much more than to be living in a 2 bedroom apartment with her friend, having to drop out of college because of stress. On top of this, she is forced to stay extra usually if things aren’t finished. We are a very busy and fast paced sub shop so she usually has to stay late. I asked her if she was going back to this schedule after Tuesday.. she said yes. Owner is taking a month…

“Like I mentioned – time off is your responsibility”.

told the manager who offered me a job i already planned and paid to go out of town two months from now. to see family and this is the response. i kinda struggle with working these traditional jobs i either stand up for myself and others and i get fucked to the point to where i want to quit or end up being fired. if i try to be flexible and accommodating at all i don’t get walked on i get trampled on. should i tell them nevermind find another barista

My job lied about growth within the company, and now I’m strongly reconsidering pursuing this as my career.

I started working in a library part time, I let the director know during my interview that I am interested in pursuing the degree to become a librarian but wanted to work in a library before committing to school. She said that there is plenty of growth here and that I am more than eligible to move to full time if I desire. I realized pretty quickly that I absolutely love working in a library, and that I could make this my career. The full time position opened in December 2022, and specifically said those in or going into the education field for this are “priority candidates.” I applied mentioning that I have officially decided to pursue this degree. I have not heard back yet (March 2023) regarding it, although my part time colleague (who also applied) recently informed me she has an interview scheduled for the position. This colleague…
