TL;DR I quit today after about 10 months on the job due to being exploited by the people I help. I don't want to get too specific as to the job I did or where, so I have to be a little vague. I worked on a small team in a big company, and we provided support to the rest of the company. The pay wasn't bad for this area, but I did wish for more money given the amount of work I was given. I was also bothered that my company didn't provide PTO and sick leave separately, given the high exposure to health risks in this job. I also can't say much about the actual work, I was good at it and I didn't mind most aspects of my job, aside from these issues. The biggest issue I had was the people I helped. Every once in…

We have a small office. Just four of us. My boss, my two coworkers, and myself. My boss is rarely ever in the office. The older lady I work with is constantly leaving early because….well…she just wants to. She is also out a lot for full days too, for whatever “legitimate” reason she can come up with. The other girl I work with is here for full shifts for the most part. So her and I work the most. But I still work more than her. Let’s just say, I’m used to working solo. I don’t mind it. But I get kind of annoyed that it seems like everyone else gets to dip out at any given moment, for any given reason. While I’m expected to hang back and deal with every single client that calls and comes in. I feel taken advantage of. Today, I was supposed to work…

My roommate’s horrifying pay structure
Before anyone says this is illegal and fucked up – she is well aware. I’m more curious if anyone’s ever heard of it before. When my roommate was hired by a recruiting agency about a year ago (global, probably 250-500 employees), she was working 10 hour days, Monday thru Thursday. For many people, including her, that worked better than 40 hours spread over 5 days. However, within a month of starting, her company mandated that associates work on Friday as well – 8 additional hours, putting her at 48/week. When she asked her boss what’s going on and what the overtime pay would be, they responded that the extra 8 hours (at time and a half) are baked into her “salary” I put “salary” in quotes. It isn’t a salary. She’s a non-exempt employee being paid hourly. However, the “overtime” puts her over the yearly income threshold in terms of…
I guess they are training me to be as lazy as them. $27/hr to do nothing. Not going to complain, I will take a easy job and save my lower back.

Hello, Background, I was a contractor working for my company. I worked 6am-3pm. Contract ended but company hired me into purchasing. When I interviewed the topic of hours never came up, they were unaware of what hours I was working and I assumed I would be able to do 6am-3pm again as that was what I was doing and I know there are peers in my department who do that. After I was hired I asked my supervisor in a written email if she would do this because of these reasons: ” I live on the other side of town, Traffic is an issue. If I leave anytime between 430 or after 5pm, what should be a 30-minute drive becomes 45 minutes to an hour. So, in one day I am potentially commuting 1hr 30min to 2 hours a day to work, morning and afternoon, instead of 1 hour. I…
