I (46f) work in a warehouse and I have production number requirements. I get moved around to different departments multiple times per day so my numbers aren't quite as good as they should be. My nice supervisor had a conversation with me a couple of weeks ago about it and we agreed on a strategy to help me achieve the required goals. She's mostly kept her side of our plan, keeping me in one department so I can reach the next level. We had this conversation at the supervisor's desk on the floor. After a week of me working crazy hard I got called to the office. Nice supervisor (NS) and mean supervisor (MS) were there. This was very unusual and I thought they'd called me in because my numbers were still bad and they were going to discipline me or put me on a formal performance improvement plan. The…
I am primarily bedbound due to complications from five scoliosis surgeries. You can stalk my post history for more information, but the TL/DR is that I am 29 years old and just finished a Master of Liberal Arts degree. Because of my medical issues, I did not have the opportunity to gain experience from internships or jobs, and I have no formal work experience. Aside from earning a 4.0 in my undergraduate and graduate programs, there is nothing special about my resume. I am currently a freelance editor and am sharpening my skills through the University of Chicago, but editing jobs—both in-house and freelance—are increasingly competitive. I do not enjoy freelancing and would prefer stable, remote work I can do from my laptop. I do not qualify for disability, and my fantastic husband supports me. I want to contribute financially to our future and desperately need something to do. My…
Been applying to BS, not a care in the world jobs I can ride my bike to. Cashier. Stocking shelves. Waiting tables. Things that won't tax my mental energy like my corporate jobs did. I want to finish school. I was applying to a chain coffee shop. They wanted me to type my entire resume. Ugh. Bad enough. Whatever. Then they wanted me to put in three references. For a barista job. You're recruiting people who primarily have zero to no job experience, people. I closed the job application and went to the next one. Insta skip. I got laid off. I've never been laid off or fired. I'm finishing my bachelors, so at least if I have to work until I die, it's doing something I find interesting and not corporate bullshit. I'm not finding three references for a fucking barista job when I'm in my 30's. I'm starting…
I work for a company that is based in Massachusetts, with major operations in Tennessee and Arizona. We used to have specific call centers but now everyone is working from home. How would I go about starting a union or joining an existing union?
