How to ask for a raise at a job I’m not prepared to leave

I was always taught that when asking for a raise you are convinced you deserve, you should be prepared to leave the job if you do not get it. I've got a pretty great job, I love what I do, my coworkers are great and so far my direct manager and upper management have also been very pleasant. I also work in a pretty niche job and while that means that I know I am very valuable to my job, it also means that I know that finding another job like this is gonna be near impossible, they just aren't out there. My current contract is ending soon, I have been at this job for 6ish months now. I have already been told they want to give me a new one because they are very happy with me and don't want to lose me. For my new contract I want…

question: job demands overtime but it has to be exactly 3 hours, so all shifts are 11 hours now

Husband works in a medical facility (shipping/receiving) Has been at this job since may 2022. Originally the job said NO OVERTIME NOT EVEN 3 SECONDS Then 2 people quit in august, they said OK OVERTIME BUT NO MORE THAN 2 HOURS A WEEK Then the 3rd person got fired umm… idk maybe October or November. So because of that my husband has been working 6 days a week, no overtime during the week but gets overtime on Saturdays. NOW a 4th person is out of work. They still haven't replaced the original 3, mind you. So now HR says my husband has to work overtime, but it has to be 3 extra hours a day. So he is now working 6 days week, 4 am to 3:30 pm (30 minute lunch) His boss said it is required by accounting department to be this way. Does anybody have any idea why??…

Anyone ever post in another sub and find yourself surprised at the sheer number of suggestions from others to do more work, do the jobs of other people for them, etc.? Madness.

I posted in another sub about a job-related annoyance I'm experiencing, and rather than getting comments from people commiserating that they may have been in the same situation, being supportive, etc., instead, I get suggestions to take on more responsibilities than I have access or knowledge to do and do the work of a project manager, even though we have an official PMO and have a PM assigned. I would've posted here, but this was more of a specific situation at my job that isn't making it a horrible place to be, per se, so I didn't think it necessarily was the ideal post for this sub. I wound up getting several upvotes on my post only to get a bunch of downvotes later, too. Odd. I'm just flabbergasted at the lack of questioning people do when things are silly or annoying at work, and instead, they make suggestions for…

People are telling you that you won’t lose your job, but it seems like you will. (A rant about the future on generative AI)

After ChatGPT became popular in the last few months, many people are blindly repeating variations of these phrases: “You don't have to worry about losing your job if you use artificial intelligence to your advantage.” and “ChatGPT will just make you focus on what really matters and ignore the repetitive parts!” Although this logic is true for many jobs in the short and medium term, we need to be realistic. In many cases, if your job becomes 50% easier, you will work 50% less and receive 50% less money. In practice, artificial intelligences like ChatGPT will make your job so easy that your boss will prefer to hire only one person to do your job along with several other people's jobs at the same time, as all companies want to profit more and reduce costs. Obviously, I am ignoring jobs that require indispensable human factors at the moment, this…

$13 an hour for this? Just need to vent about this lol

It’s a baker position at a tea cafe. I come in and an expected to make 100+ scones, assorted deserts and decorate/plate everything for service. ( as well as the mix for scones which takes me 15-20min to prepare) on busy days we have parties of 50 people, otherwise it’s prep for the week. It’s one baker in the kitchen, and another employee who preps the lunch items. we are not allowed to help each other either. Nobody takes breaks, I was never told to take one or given the opportunity to. I’m constantly being told I’m not doing things fast enough when I’m still learning how to do everything the correct way and instead of being able to make things the way they should be I’m forced to rush things. So the work ethic they expect is, do everything at a high speed pace, take no breaks, and clock…
