How Companies Are ‘Quiet Firing’ Workers
Back on the job hunt
So my previous post is about me getting harassed by text messages off work hours from an unknown number and drama with my coworker. (Who I can't prove is behind the messages) I went to HR and they're concerned. It was mentioned that if I got anymore messages to email them. I continue my day like normal and my coworker/I avoid each other the best we can. I had to go by her desk to grab our credit machine and didn't say anything. I get a text from the same number off my shift again and it says “you should snap at her and see what happens.” Obviously I screenshot it. Send it to HR and they tell me block the number. I already did. Apparently HR spoke to my higher ups on this matter as well. I'm uncomfortable and now I'm looking for a new job as I doubt…
Current situation at work: a section of work was split off from one department and attached to another department. The departments have vastly different rules in place for what's an acceptable schedule. Is there free software that'll let me make a schedule for about 11 people? A few examples of things I'm trying to fit: There's coverage that's needed from 7am Sunday to 4 pm Saturday. They want 3 people on shift at the same time. Shift start times need to be the same everyday (except sat/sun which can be up to 2 hrs different) Shifts need to be 5 8's, 4 10's or 3 12's No more than 10% of schedules can be scheduled both sat and Sunday. I'm not management, just looking for a software way to figure out what the schedules have to look like to follow the rules. And if we have to hire more people…
$3 withheld from my paycheck
A place that I work part time on and off as needed offered us our highest paid rate to complete a sexual harassment training. For me, this is $31 dollars. The next pay period I received $28 for this training. I emailed twice about having the pay adjusted and they didn’t ever adjust the pay or get back to me. This was in November. Today, I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I asked my boss about the $3, and he apologized multiple times and said that he made a mistake. He then went on to tell me that I would not be receiving this adjusted pay. He said to me “I am not going to process a payment for $6”. (at the time he thought the difference was $6, not $3). He also went on to tell me “It's only $6. Its not like you worked…
What can I do to make my life easier?
My boyfriend has been with this tech company and was working remotely for about 2 years before getting on a hybrid schedule earlier this year. The official policy is everyone needs to be in the office three days a week (tues-thurs). Unofficially though, his boss said if they had errands to run or appts to go to, they could work from home that day and if the boss is out of the office, no one needs to come in. This 1hr 30min drive is 2hr+ long due to traffic both ways and he’s brought this up to his boss about coming in fewer times but the response was it’s a policy from the higher ups and everyone needs to be in compliance and the only way out of it is to have a legit excuse. My boyfriend is not comfortable with lying 3 times a week just to maintain a…
Loyalty/job security
In a conversation with an employee at my current job. “So how do you like it?” I reply only been here for a short time…basically giving a bland answer. She replies “it pays the bills been at this job for some time ( like 9 years). With that statement I notice a lack of energy and the attitude of “ I’m here oh well.” There isn’t any job loyalty or security out there. You have to do for you and if you find something that fits you better and you move on…SO BE IT!
