It’s astounding how unreasonable and archaic some businesses can be…

Just kind of in need of some venting. Sorry for how long this will probably be. I don't want to give too much personal information away, simply because who knows who looks up what, so I don't want to be too identifiable. But I should probably provide a bit of context. I work for a company doing print production for them and their various locations (thankfully, this isn't a customer facing job, just printing for the business I work for). Our production department is actually pretty small, just a few people, and oddly disconnected from other notable parts of the company. I'm the assistant manager, and one of my coworkers is the manager. Our “supervisor” doesn't work out of our department, so we don't see them that frequently, but we do communicate regularly via phone and email, and they're sort of the go-between between our department and the “important people”.…

Does any else resent their job because you work too much?

I'm an experienced Chef who more and more often I become so over my profession and want out due to the usual suspects of work load, crazy hours, taking time off is like pulling teeth, no balance, etc. I guess Noma couldn't figure it out either… Anyone else starting to hate their job due to the more than necessary work load and effort to stay afloat?

I make about 42K as an admin/accounting person in a billing office for a large group of anesthesiologists. I get 15 PTO days a year, as does everyone else in the office. That includes sick time, personal days, whatever. 15 days and then you’re on your own. Today, I found out what our doctors get…

The doctors get 40 days for vacation alone. That's right, while we get 15 for everything combined. Is my job as stressful as theirs? No. Do I also deserve half a million per year like they get? No. Do they have more schooling than me? Of course. But it's not like they have to pay me more while I'm out, so 15 days per year in a company that offers 40 days to their other employees is so fucked. If anything, I'm gonna need way more PTO days to counter the crushing fear that my salary is gonna suffocate me in the long run. Furthermore, I hate knowing that other people have it even worse, if they even get PTO at all. I absolutely hate capitalism and the people who think the way it's run is a good thing.

A Harvard Business Review study tracked 27 CEOs for 3 months to show that they worked 62.5 hours a week. The study didn’t show that the CEOs tainted the study by lying about how much they work.

Last week, I informed my company that they were in violation of Illinois biometric collection law…today I got fired.

Last week, my trainer asked me if I heard about White Castle being sued for collecting biometric scans without employee consent because we had installed a finger scanner a few months before I started in December. I told her that I hadn’t, but I had questioned the legality because I was aware of the law after collecting a settlement from a similar CA lawsuit against Facebook. After asking my trainer to review my onboarding materials so see if biometrics were mentioned anywhere (they weren’t), I forwarded the article along with the actual text of the Illinois Biometric Act to some corporate-based HR team members as well as our President and VP. Their reply was quick and was a complete blow-off. I followed up and urged them to take a second look as it is very clear that we were not compliant with the law. I received a personal reply from…
