how to form a union ?
hi, i am a highschool barista at my local starbucks and am doing research on how to form a union. i figured id come ask here to get some opinions from people who are likely well versed in the matter of unions. my starbucks all got raises over christmas, but our manager is lowkey a bitch and doesnt know what she is doing. she has only been scheduling me and my other highschool co-workers for long weekend shifts instead of just letting us work after school. the past few weeks she has been scheduling only three workers over some of the more busier times like 2:30-8:30 (our close), one of them being a shift lead which makes it so they are mainly doing theyre closing tasks like counting how much product we have left and money. almost every shift ive worked for the past week has had at least one…
Unionization question?? URGENT
Hey guys sorry for the title but my work is having a restaurant wide meeting tonight for the next quarter of sales to talk about how we’ve been doing and new stuff we’re selling. Last time is was mostly them chewing out one group or another of workers and saying some nice stuff to balance it out. They want me to speak tonight since they view me as a leader amongst the associates. It’s been hell recently, and we’ve been getting fucked by corporate cutting hours and understaffing us. They also are going to start making us use vacation time for sick days. I was pissed they were going to make me speak, but now I want to sort of call my coworkers to unionize. My question is, is it legal for me to talk about doing so at the meeting, or is their some twisted law that makes it…
This sub has taught me to assume the tip I leave will be stolen by management / owners. It seems most prevalent in carry out food / drink establishments but I just read a comment about it happening in a vape shop. It's better for your sanity and the worker's income if you put cash in their hand. Then there are no lingering questions about parasitic leeches stealing from employees with impunity.
Nice to meet You Employment
What advice can I give my mom?
My 55 year old mom works at Target. She spent most of her adult life in the aviation industry, working an extremely niche position that doesn’t exist anywhere else because her boss essentially created the position for her. However, she still acquired a lot of experience and valuable skills in this position that can absolutely be applied to adjacent positions in the industry. In 2021 she got laid off, and has tirelessly searched for a new job, even looking at sales, but prospective employers won’t hire her because her previous experience was too specific, she spent most of her career at this one job, and (my guess) she’s older. My mom is a really hard worker and she’s humbly accepted this undesired change in her career trying to make the best of it. She has been working at target for 2 years with the intent to go into management. She’s…
