I was laid off last month from the tech world (an SF bay based company). I’m tracking my job application data really thoroughly this time around and am actively interviewing at several places. I’m curious what will happen and how many of these roles I’m interviewing for will be impacted. Most of the companies I‘ve worked for in the past are tech companies out of San Francisco and I know some of them are currently affected. I guess we’ll see what happens.

Posting here because I thought this was just peak corporate Bs. I work for a non profit, and I don’t have any sick days , and ironically most people in the office I interact with work with children , and no one gets sick more than… children. I’m prone to migraines, and I plan to leave the job soon for other reasons I’ve posted before , but I asked my boss about sick days and what could be done if we were down with something contagious , or just sick in general, and she said we could work from home (I work in data and 90% of what we do can be done remotely but they just want us to come in as the job is an on-site position) , but that she doesn’t tell people this as they could take advantage… because everyone knows that if we’re sick with…
I cannot fathom the idea of 9 to 5…I cannot take this world anymore. It hurts to see how much work gets in the way of quality time with our dear ones. I hate how this hyper independent and individualtic grind culture (esp deeply rooted in the western world) makes us forget about what actually matters. the number of relationships that break because of schedules and hectic work days, the number of children neglected because their parents are forced to be workaholics, the number of dreams suppressed for making a living… I just want to be, to be naked in the woods, fall in love, grow vegetables and HAVE TIME for my art.
Millions of people died from a preventable disease. Protections and mitigations — paid sick days, masks, improved ventilation, infection tracing — were ignored, since doing anything to save lives would “disrupt the economy”. Now, with millions dead, the capitalist class is short on workers. So they're allowing child labour, including separating undocumented immigrant kids from their parents, just to feed the machine.
Is it normal to punch out when not busy?
So, I'm a profoundly disabled and autistic woman (25F) who works as a secretary for a family friend. The only way I could work and not be on disability is that she hired me because I need very flexible accommodations, such as the fact I work from home. This is my first job so there's a lot that I don't fully understand. Now, she (boss) said that I only need to report hours that I actually work because I'm WFH. Meaning, if I have an appointment at 10am but then don't have another one until 1pm, I punch in at 10am, punch out after that phone call and then don't punch in again until 1pm. However, she still gave me hours to work. So, I work from say 9:30am-6pm but if I punched in and punched out like that, I'd only be paid for an hour or two and that…
