The Capitalists are using large scale/illegal immigration to decrease wages and make housing unaffordable – workers should not support it

The notion goes something like this: moar people means moar consumption which means moar jobs which means moar wages. Except this doesnt hold up to economic/scientific scrutiny. If the number of people increases too quickly – the number of new jobs created cannot keep up. Thus soon the number of people looking for work will massively outnumber avaliable work and wages will decrease because supply outpaces demand. And while some may claim that this is not true because unemployment rate is below 4% – the labor participation rate has decreased from 67% in 2000 to just 62% in 2022. Also compared to the 1960s before large scale immigration – real wages/purchasing power have stagnated. Then there is the matter of housing. If the number of people increases too quickly – the number of new houses/appartments constructed cant keep up – thus driving up house prices/rent. Also since space is a…

I just hate that besides work – everyone now expects a degree.

I work a job that I could have done without a degree – even without HS. Actually many of the older people working there started without HS or just with HS. But if I had no degree – they wouldnt have even looked at my resume. Its just frustrating that I needed to invest 5 years of my life to get a Masters degree I didnt really need. For a job I could do without it. And seeing all the people that got it right without a degree and earned more than me right from the beginning.

Job Hunting is basically begging wealthy people in power to give you money to put food on the table

Hundreds upon hundreds of candidates all applying for the same jobs. The people that decide who gets them have all the power. They can pick whoever they want, and often times superficial reasons (race, religion, sexuality) will be the deciding factor. Often times they will also be biased and pick someone they're already connected with. These people are basically playing eeny meeny miny mo and picking which one of us is allowed to even fucking live, because of course you cant fucking live without money. And then finally, the person that wins the job hunting lottery can finally afford to live comfortably. Meanwhile the hundreds (or possibly thousands) of other people that weren't picked are still broke. This reminds me of a scene in the movie Ip Man, where hundreds of starving people where begging a wealthy man to let them work a job, otherwise they'd starve to death. Guess…

My partner works 16-24h days and think it’s a flex. How can I convince him it’s unhealthy and not a flex?

Title. This may not be the subreddit but I am hoping for any advice. I've been with my partner for 3 years. For all this time, he's always been taking his jobs seriously. It is mostly blue collar jobs and he's being paid well. Unfortunately though, his new job requires him to work 16-24 hours, and he will work those hours as the pay is closer to 300% for OT + off-office hours. Keep in mind these 16-24h shifts don't count his (unpaid) over 3 hour public transport trips in one direction. I suspect it has something to do with him being raised in a very militant household and being deployed in the past. Currently, he's being the sole provider and caretaker of the house (his parent + sisters and their families incl. kids) and does all the cleaning, shopping, cooking and so on after his shifts. Last year he…

Should I quit my job at a high end fashion company after being passed up for an internship?

I am currently studying in the field of fashion media and am set to graduate around this time next year. I took a job with one of the most well known brands in the world and have given them every single day off I have for the last 8 months. I was explicitly promised an internship and was told “it's no problem” over and over, now when it comes time to sign the contract I was told i have to wait until last Wednesday, now 'end of the week' today (which is Sunday).. Should i put in my two weeks if they confirm they wont give me the internship? My logic is that if they wont give me an unpaid position why would they give me a paid position? Context: Foreign citizen, pull in at least over 20k in sales from them every day I work, have built massive accounts…
