Like what is our outlook 20-30 years from now? My plans have gone down significantly since I have started contributing to them(why am I contributing just to lose money?.) I don’t see any positive outlooks for a retirement plan when our society is going to shambles year by year…
Been working part time at REI for nearly a year and after getting the annual “calibration” meeting with my manager where I received positive marks and a small raise, I had my hours cut to zero with no warning. After I complained this morning, I was put on the following week’s pay period for one 8 hr shift. Apparently after exceeding all of our sales and membership goals last year, the company wasn’t profitable which is apparently being scapegoated onto the entry level positions with added pressure from management. Basically every day is constant reminders about upselling end of transaction donations and Mastercard applications (Capital One pays for the free $100 gift card that can only be used at REI), as if that alone is going to compensate for the mismanagement that led to not meeting profitability in the first place. So I did the math on how much my…

So I work at a convenience store…
I've been working at this convenience store for about a week or two. My manager had me come in for an extra shift today for “extra training,” which basically means he didn't think I was doing as well as I should've been. This was fine, of course. But when I came in to work, he went back over that I was there for extra training. I asked, “Because I need to speed up in the kitchen?” He told me, “You just need to get your shit together. All your shit. Get it together.” I am 17 years old and—again—have only worked here for about a week and a half. I have made mistakes of course, as everyone does, but with neither a quantity nor a severity to warrant such hostility.

story about a mandatory christmas party
So, back in December 2022, there was a Christmas party for my dad's work that was mandatory. The place he works at is a cleaning and restoration service. When he stayed over night at a motel, he had to pay for it. HE had to pay for it. The party was MANDATORY. When my dad contacted the company about this, he got ghosted. Not only that, my dad still hasn't gotten ANY money back whatsoever since then. Forgot to mention that he is 1. Full-time and 2. was employee of the month TWICE in 2022. Fuck cleaning services.
Wild interview
So went to an interview with a company but that has had previous work done by my current company. When I went to the interview was shown the facility by the GM when I was led into operation manager's office. There was a police officer there. Turns out there is a massive investigation into my current company they have been embezzling from customers. They asked me what I knew. I didn't tell them anything that implicates anyone but they showed me an insane amount of evidence that implicates that my current employer is very very shady with how they handle customer inventory into the tune of several hundred thousand dollars. They offered me a position starting at $12 an hour more than what I'm currently making. I'm going to take the jump. This is a family-owned company that I'm looking at joining. They are very kind and provided a detailed…
