Should I Get a Lawyer?
I was fired from my dream job today. My work has spoken for itself. I'm one of the top employees, so it's a shock. Especially when the reason given was that a colleague filed a complaint about a conversation he had with me alone, off the clock (technically), at a coffee shop while on a work trip in another state. They're giving me a great severance package (1 month of health insurance and pay) and I get to keep my computer (remote worker) but feel like this happened unfairly. I know, your coworkers aren't your friends, but I shouldn't be fired for something that happened off the clock.
Is this legal? I am in Texas.
Pearls from the Mouths of Chuds
Let me say right off the bat that the man in this video is a libertarian crank at the best of times and possibly pretty problematic on a lot social stuff. I just found his channel when searching woodworking content and got big chud energy. So I when I saw the title of this vid I was expecting a man bitching about socialism into a camera for 15min but was actually surprised. His sentiments actually echo a sentiment I've heard from other blue collar coworkers of certain age: those that have been the most “useful idiots” of capital for the last 30 years are seeing how it does not have their back as they get toward the last decade or so of working years. What might be obvious to a lot of you on this sub about the exploitative nature of work is maybe starting to dawn on the 45+…
Both my current job and previous job did not give me a W-4 to fill out. When I noticed it, I spoke to my boss to have his accountant change it. They never did. Is it legal for companies to be automatically claiming 1 instead of 0? Its ridiculous how much I owe as a Single Adult with no dependents.
management at my workplace is a joke
Last week I was wrongfully written up, and received a verbal warning (which I'm currently disputing). Management is trying to tell me I was on a certain machine and stopped the entire line, when in reality I wasn't even on the said machine that stopped the line. They have documents that I wasn't even working the machine that stopped the line, but are still trying to write me up. Earlier today I went to the grocery store before my shift for lunch at work, and I seen the guy that is trying to write me up wrongfully. We're not allowed to leave work during our shift or even go to our cars if we forgot something, but this guy was in a grocery store with his work uniform on buying fresh lunch at the grocery store.
