Work wants me to pay back the drawer, is this legal?

Hi all! First post here, please delete if not allowed, I’ll try to keep this short. I work for a franchisee, and in the job we handle a cash drawer. I was told today by another employee that if the drawer is over at the end of the night, we put it to the side in “extra”, but if the drawer is short everyone who worked that day(or shift I am 100%unsure as of right now) has to chip in their own money to make sure the drawer is even. This makes me feel defensive and not wanting to lose income if someone made a mistake through the day. Does anyone have insight or know if this is illegal? TIA!

How comfortable are you using Microsoft Word?

I am still baffled every time I get this question (and I get it a lot). I understand maybe 20 years ago when it was “new” to the older people in the workforce. But at this point, if you can't create a Word document, it's time to retire.

Capitalism is going to kill me

Ive always struggled with depression and anxiety since i was a little kid and i'm honestly not a very high functioning person because of that. Basically have constant suicidal ideation and can never really focus or take anything in because of it. If i didn't have my parents allowing me to live with them i probably wouldn't be here now or would be homeless. I've tried everything to get better and it's been a 10 year battle of meds, therapy, and hospital visits but i don't know if i'll ever be able to function enough to support myself when i can barely get out of bed. I just really don't know what to do haha! I guess i'm writing this because i'm scared. It only really seems like things are getting worse in terms of affordability and quality of life. I just don't get why everyone seems to be okay…

Pee on my leg while you tell me it’s raining.

My favorite part about International Women’s Day is seeing all the linked in posts telling us how valuable women are to our respective organizations, while being paid 30% less than my male colleagues with less experience. It’s a special kind of cognitive dissonance here in Merica.

Evil minds sink our life, technology should free us from the burden of work, they should as Bill Gates said, pay taxes on their benefits to subsidize the surplus labor until our demise

Do I have a leg to stand on against my employer?

So, I got fired this week. Upon calling my boss regarding the situation, she stated I was fired for absenteeism, general unwillingness to work, but she had also mentioned me talking about unions. She did not outright say I was fired for that, but it came up and that implied it. If I can record a phone call (legal in my state) and get her to mention “union-talk” again, do I have a case for well… a case? I don't know if my absenteeism trumps union busting. I'm just itching to eat the rich here. Edit: Just some details I missed that I would like to clarify. She fired me during a four day stretch where I had called in because both my wife and daughter were violently vomiting with some stomach bug. My wife can't drive so I prefer to stay home with them in case something terrible happens.…

“Proof” of illness

My former boss accused me of lying about being sick when using sick time. I told her I have chronic GI issues among other things and she told me to my face that she didn't believe me and that they might ask for proof of illness. Cue malicious compliance. Every time I threw up at the office (which was every few weeks because GI issues) I would bring her the trash bag that had my vomit in it and ask if she wanted to see it to verify that I was actually sick. After the third time she flipped out and told me to just go home. Didn't have a problem with me calling out after that.
