work off the clock
Why the hell in my “midpoint appraisal” today did my boss first “stress work life balance” and “not working outside your hours” but then proceeds to tell me I should take a few minutes while I am at home to search social media to see if people are talking about our company??? Like why the hell would I even waste 10 seconds on that when I'm not at work? And you just told me not to work outside my hours? How the hell would she even know if I do or don't do that. I am so confused. And that wasn't even the worst part of the review. I've only been here like 6 months and I am leaning towards look elsewhere honestly. They try to seem like a forward thinking company with strong work life balance and mask it with neoliberal bullshit safe space shit, then turn around and…
Remote work or current office job?
I don't really have any clue about where to post this so I am posting it here hoping to get some advice and thoughts? Maybe? Okay here it goes. Right now I'm working in a tech company that offers tech consulting and other services related to it. I make decent money and the work isn't stressful and I'm basically only working 3 to 4 hours a day and the rest of the time I'm watching shows and movies and no one really cares about that. The commute isn't too far but the thing is the city that I live in is dangerous and a lot of bad things happen all the time. I live with my mom and my little sister and I take care of them financially. My mom is old and sick mostly and my sister is 5 year old. She needs help with my sister all the…
I feel guilty when I have a weekday off!
Does this happen to anyone else? I took a personal day and I feel like I'm doing something wrong, like playing hookie.
Came across a list of WARN notices
A guy named Nick Roman posted on LinkedIn about creating a spreadsheet of WARN notice. He created a list of states in alphabetic order and links to their WARN notification sites/files of when a company filed their WARN Notification (their intent to lay people off) and in some cases when they plan to lay people off. Some lists will tell you how many by job title. There are two reasons he created the list. 1st, to give people some insight into whether they will be affected and can start getting things into order in hopes to lessen the impact. The 2nd is for recruiters who have opportunities to hire to perhaps start reaching out and help minimize the time it takes to get people back to work. The WARN Lists List
Costumer tunnel vision
Is it me, or do some of the customers that come to the store I work at have fucking tunnel vision because no matter how many cashiers we have open most of them gravitate to ONE and completely ignore the others. Some of them also seem to ignore the fact that we have self checkout so that the customers that don't have a whole lot of groceries can easily pay for them, bag their order, and go relatively fast.
She gets 120 hours PTO per year (only used 100 last year, rolled 20 hours over). She took one day off last month, and was going to leave 2 hours early today due to us both having a virus. She’s been up all night coughing, I know she feels terrible. She can’t hardly talk. What is wrong with employers? Do they really not understand PTO is time WE EARN from working? Dude I am so sick of it. She’s got an interview for another job soon. If it wasn’t for that, I’d tell her to put her notice in today. Her boss is so stupid. I swear the lady has no brain. I literally hate the work culture we have here. STOP LETTING UNEDUCATED PEOPLE BE IN MANAGEMENT POSITIONS.
Hey there. Just need to vent really. 23F here. I work for a freelance entertainment agency for schools to get some extra cash while I’m studying. We basically get trial lessons booked which we do in case a school wants to work with us. My manager has always told me if a session is too far away or too much hassle, to let her know. I had two sessions booked today- one near my house and one about an hour away. I told her after my morning lesson (4 hours before my afternoon one) that I fear two sessions in one day, around my uni schedule, might be too much moving forward, but I’m happy to do the trial session today so I’m not cancelling last minute, and so someone else could potentially take over following this (this isn’t unusual in the company.) She told me there was no point…
I was thinking about this, because I’ve been screwed out of promotions, I think we all have… what’s stopping us from making up a company name, what they do, etc, saying they’re a small business, and then putting down a friend as the “HR” of that company? For instance I could put down that I, Krooked, worked at Krooked’s Friend’s Emporium as a manager for 2 years… what’s stopping me?
