This was over a year ago, so I feel fine posting I (19m) worked at a fast food place (known for broiling their burgers), and it was awful when I started. Everything was fine. We were given a type of debit card rather than asking for bank info or giving checks. This made it nearly impossible to truly calculate what you were actually being paid. We didn't have a gm so we were having a dm handle everything that lasted a month, after which we got a gm and the issues started they hired a manager who would sit an do nothing but take orders, generally we were told we'd needed to switch sections at least every other day, they didn't, they enjoyed complaining and putting all their mistakes on others which lead to our 2nd and better manager quitting, the annoying manager quit soon after not being able to…

Can I be fired for making a genuine mistake in the UK? Also regardless of whether you believe me or not, it was not my fault. Mistake cost £5000 in wrongfully sent out items.
Restroom question
Soo idk if this belongs here, but here it goes. I(M) work at pretty big company, and the staff of about 50 in my current building share restrooms with multiple stalls. Very similar to a Walmart restroom. I was in the last stall minding/ doing my business, but the coworker in the stall next was doing extra stuff. By the motion of his arm by the shadow, and the shadow of his other hand holding the phone. It was veryyyy clear he was wacking it! By then I quickly finished and left the restroom. Fucking dude! Now, here’s the deal. I know who he his by his shoes 🤦️ smh. He works in another department, older man, doesn’t talk to me. Im not trying to get anyone fired, but fuckk. Can’t look at him anymore. Rant over!
How do you hold onto hope?
How do you guys hold onto hope? Does it ever feel exhausting? Just seeing everything get worse and worse, and people just seem to get more and more malicious. Here in the US, DeSantis is still crusading to basically turn Florida into his personal kingdom, and I'm sure he's going to run for president. What's worse, it feels like with Biden doing “nothing” as is so common with Democrat presidents, I feel like we're going to once again flip to a republican president. Like we're in very real danger of someone with the same level as Trump but with much more skill at manipulating his base and far more ways to use hatred and incitement “subtly” (even though it seems flat-out obvious what's going on here in FL). It just feels like sometimes nothing is getting better, everyone is fine with the status quo because it doesn't affect them, they…
In the office I work, the remuneration policy states annual increment in salary, and I’ve recently completed one year here. As I’ve noticed in my paycheck (monthly here) they’ve not upgraded the salary amount. Also according to my observations and interactions with seniors, there’s is always a review and discussion before they offer an increment. I’m going to write them a mail to request to discuss regarding this, how shall I proceed? What shall I prepare to talk about during the discussion? How can I ensure I get a good raise, since there’s no fixed percentage that decides the raise, its mostly based on performance. All advices welcomed. 🙂
Need an Anti-Work Pep Talk To Quit
I've been working a job for about 8 weeks, where the tasks I was hired to do changed shortly after I accepted my offer. My boss is a nice enough guy, but our contract on the project I was primarily hired to work is ending abruptly, and my role has changed significantly. I found a new job with a more established, consistent (as far as I can tell) company with better pay, doing the job I was originally hired to do at job A. I now need to quit my current job without giving notice. Frankly, giving two weeks notice on a job I've worked for 8 weeks feels ridiculous. I plan to be as polite and professional as possible, but I'm quitting entirely last-minute so I expect it will go over poorly. I obviously have no plans to contact this boss as a reference, etc. etc. I know they…
If our aim was a more, much much more, sustainable work culture, without what jobs would we be doing just fine? r/fuckcars crosses over and suggests shutting down the automotive industry and focus all of those resources into a more working, inclusive, and environmental friendly shared transportation systems. “Sustainability is a societal goal that relates to the ability of people to safely co-exist on Earth over a long time.” — from Wikipedia article on Sustainability
Can I get fired if I get committed?
For reference I live and work in California. I’ve been seeing a therapist for a while and I’ve been feeling super burnt out and generally depressed. I mentioned to my manager in passing that I was overwhelmed and seeing a therapist about burnout and they brushed it off as “everyone’s burnt out after the pandemic!” Well last week my therapist suggested I see a psychiatrist and possibly consider more serious measures. Our insurance would cover a stay in a psychiatric hospital. I just don’t know if I could get fired for being gone that long. I’m also now really worried that I might say something that will get me involuntarily committed and possibly fired.
