Editable contract

HR sent the new contract as an editable Word document, already containing the company signature. What (entirely legal) changes should one consider before counter-signing? Note: UK based, would like to keep the job

Tired of that “company man” mentality

I'm getting fed up with my boss and other coworkers making fun or talking smack about someone because they couldn't come into work. One of the coworkers that called out was in the ER, and had the doctor's note to prove it. Another one had a family emergency. Whether or not it's true is none of your business. If they made up an excuse to stay out of work, it's probably to get away from all the crap that they get from the “company men” mentioned in the beginning. These “company men” have come into work with messed up knees, covid positive with symptoms, or sick as a dog, because they're too proud and think the company relies on them. In a sense, they are relied on, as some of them have certain certifications that others don't have. But if someone chooses to stay at home because they're having a…

seeking career advice

I am 34 F unemployed considering taking out a loan for driving lessons to increase my chances of landing a job and having dysphraxia makes it harder for me. I made the poor choice of leaving an operating theatre nurse university course 6 years ago and spent my savings on luxury holidays, rent and latest purchase braces this week. I have been applying for EVERY JOB under the sun including waitressing/cleaning/receptionist since my redundancy in a remote recruiter role DEC 2022 I am constantly being rejected. What do you guys work as and can you recommend anything I can do in the meantime because I am stuck and broke and need some advice please.. Thank you

Work as an Infinite Game

Last night I listened to a Simon Sinek talk about finite vs. infinite games. The main example being the United States in the Vietnam war. The US looked at the conflict as a finite game, something that could be won in a certain amount of time and using enough resources. The North Vietnamese however, looked at it as an infinite game, they weren’t fighting to ‘win’, they were fighting to survive and to make sure that their way of life continued. They didn’t care about how many lives had to be lost or how long they had to fight, to them there was no win/lose it was live/die. The more I thought about that I compared it to today’s environment for employment. That often I think we want there to be a win, we want to get to a point of working enough and spending enough time at work that…

Employer demands to return equipment even though I haven’t signed a receipt note for it?

Hi All, I'm exiting a workplace and they demand I return my phone, laptop, screen and chair, headset. I have only signed a receipt protocol for using and having received the device for the mobile phone, I plan to return the laptop and headset too as they'll lock it and it's expensive and there's an email at work about the headset, therefore I think they'll send debt collections agents against me for it. I do not plan on returning the chair, monitor, mouse and keyboard as well as a dock as there's no written communication, nor documents signed and i'll practically return my other kit after payroll has been processed for my last payslip. The equipment has been PAT tested at work but PAT testing is just the cables to my knowledge. I have never received this equipment from my records however company records show it being purchased for me…
