Somehow landed an executive role.

Hey guys and gals! So today was my first day as “Director of Growth/CMO” – whatever that means. A little backstory: I've been running my own SEO contracting company that's been decently successful for a couple of years now, and I have a pretty strong background in sales before that. I like to look at job postings for high pay gigs and apply for it because I always think “Why not? Worst that's gonna happen is I'll get rejected or I'll never hear anything from them”. Fast forward to last week and I'm interviewing for what I thought was a Director of Marketing position. I get a call back, which I'll be honest, shocked me a bit. I was blunt about my strengths and my lack of experience but my willingness to learn and fill in the gaps. Did not expect to hear anything back. Fast forward a couple of…

Getting downvoted in r/Target, what is r/AntiWork’s take?

Wtf, Target? Read the rules, so I hope this post is okay. I'm not a Team Member, but a long time TM spouse. Been lurking here for a year or so, occasionally texting a link from here to my girl. My wife has worked for five Targets in three states over the passed 20+ years. You could say I'm fairly well versed in the culture, at least from a family member. I know what a planogram is, I've been on the spousal sidelines for 22 Black Fridays (and the used to be Brown Thursdays, I remember when Store Team Leads were changed to Store Directors, etc. Overall, Target has been good to my wife and family. Without giving too much personal info, my wife, along with dozens of other Team Members are being tasked to travel to another state to set planogram at a new Target this week. She'll be…

I hate my job but Im absolutly stuck there

I do have a bachelor's degree and a master degree, but so does everyone else these days, which doesnt give me an edge. I have 5 years of experience under my belt, but 4 of them is the wrong kind because its very high tech and its too sophisticated for 99% of companies. And finally, I got one additional year in what you could say is general mid level IT management, but that doesnt qualify me for shit because “you've only been in that role for one year, that doesnt qualify you for shit sir”. So here I am, tired, abused and a little depressed. I have looked everywhere and nobody is hiring someone like me. I have dug myself a nice hole and now it seems I'll never get out of it. I know it, my employer knows it, and they are fucking going at me. They know Im…

Introducing the “scab rate”

Although my workplace has a common hourly rate, we also have what we call the “scab rate”. This is basically 25% less than our hourly rate and is paid whenever we take holidays or sick leave. So for hypothetical, let's say you work and earn your leave at $20 an hour, when you decide to take said EARNED leave, they will only pay you it at $15. It's awesome. /s

“Don’t come in if you’re sick.” “What do you mean you’re sick, we’re super busy today!”

Make up your mind. Do you want me to come in sick or not? Every day is busy and we never have enough staff that it's a “good time” to call in. I even arranged a cover for myself, and then it's also my fault that the boss let that person come in an hour and a half later than she should've. No more favors for these mofos, I suddenly value my time off much more.

My boss yelled at me for my hearing loss

I (28f) have moderate hearing loss. I wear hearing aids but even with them in, sometimes I have a hard time hearing lower tones, such as men’s voices. I worked for a small family owned pharmacy as a staff pharmacist. The owner was…. A Karen to say the least. She was always very negative and berated and put down her employees, even for the tiniest of mistakes. About a week ago, we had a very nice gentleman come into the pharmacy and he had a very deep voice. I was the only pharmacist working besides the owner, but she was busy at the time. I help the customer but can’t quite discern what he’s saying. I apologize profusely and explain my hearing loss, and asked him to write his name and date of birth down so I could further assist him. He was super understanding and very pleasant. My boss…
