Caring Too Much

I'm quitting my job without notice, and it's bothering me more than I hoped. My current job is a grueling 12 hour night shifts, I have only been at this job for a month, the place is chaotic, I have only been trained about 30% of my job and cannot do large portions of my work. I have been offered and accepted a career opportunity with a State Agency protecting the welfare of at risk individuals. This position pays $7/Hour more than my current job, has better hours, and has superb benefits. Not to mention, I get to use my college degree as opposed to not using it in my current position. Why do I feel like I owe so much to a company that I barely have worked for and has been a turbulent month?

Basically fired from my job after 7 years

I’ was a butcher at my uncles grocery store he had a partner with him that owned the store as well that never liked me. The store was suppose to close in July but instead my uncles partner basically paid my uncle out and found a new partner. No notice or anything the owner calls and says the stores sold and you can’t work overnight anymore but I still have a job. I agree to working days and go in the last 2 days and worked. After leaving work I get a call from the owner saying the meat department payroll is too high and We’d like to move you to grocery at a 10$ pay cut. He couldn’t just fire me he had to do some loophole so I don’t get unemployment. I guess that’s life Side note the owner has been going in and deducting hours from employees…

So……why don’t you offer a living wage?

“Demand for US labor has rebounded strongly as the economy climbed out of the hole caused by the pandemic. The need for workers has greatly exceeded supply, with almost two job openings in place for every unemployed person, giving job seekers options and leading to strong wage growth.”

lets talk about The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)

This movie seems to somewhat romanticize the grind, when I first watched it around 10 years ago I remember feeling very inspired by it. But nowadays, after rewatching, it is closer to a horror movie.

Minimum effort

I was incredibly sick when I had my daughter, and spent 2 years out of the workforce. Then I pretty much took the first job I could get. I put a stupid amount of energy into it, because I wanted it to be worthwhile being away from my daughter, and last year it blew up in my face spectacularly. I'm still with the same company but they moved me to a different service location with a new team. They're nice enough but I just don't really care anymore. I'd much rather be with my family. So if anyone has tips on how to half-ass your job without being so terrible you get fired, I'm all ears. I can't afford to quit because this job helps pay for my chronic pain treatments, but I'm actively looking for other work. Kinda shit myself in the foot because I can't drive, but I'm…
