Commission pay vs a standard salary?

So I’ve been interviewing with companies and some have said their compensation structure is commission based and others have said that is a mix of salary and commission based. I’ve always preferred the standard salary, especially when given circumstances surrounding inflation, transportation, etc. What are your thoughts on these pay structures?

Work Threat: Hybrid but I Can’t Work from Home

I work for a non-profit and our CEO has been VERY into people not working from home. But I was hired as a hybrid employee. But that’s honestly an entirely other post. Recently they hired someone who in the two days they worked for the company broke multiple IT and private information stipulations for the company. They were fired yesterday and today sent a wild message basically threatening our business, my boss and employees. I told my boss today I don’t feel comfortable coming into the office tomorrow, as this person know where we park, walk to work, take lunch, and the entrance to our building. I offered to work from home. They said no. Apparently, they have taken “all safety precautions needed to create a safe work environment.” I really don’t believe them. We park 2 blocks away with multiple disabled employees and leave at 6 pm when it’s…

can i win a case that i am experiencing gender inequality?

i (F) am a senior engineer at my company and recently found out that a junior engineer (M) has the same salary as me (we don't have any other form of comp). we were at the same level when he was hired and he was making x salary. 6 months later i get a double promotion to the senior role and start earning that same x salary. i found out about our salaries recently by looking at the H1B database. i told my manager (F) that i felt that this was unfair (not only am i 2 levels above the junior engineer, the different amount of value we bring in terms of individual contribution is very clear and documented, me bringing more value that is) and that it felt like gender bias (we are a small team: 3F + 1M). my manager told me that it has nothing to do…

Unpaid Social Work Internship

The requirement of completing an extensive unpaid internship as part of social work programs is oppressive and needs to be addressed. The CSWE should provide flexible options for students to complete their field education without having to work for free. While field education is the “signature pedagogy” of social work programs, it is not fair to expect students to endure poverty and financial hardship while completing their internships. Many programs have the technology to replicate real-life experiences through simulations, and students should have the option to complete these simulations instead of being forced into unpaid internships. Most, if not the majority, of field placements benefit more from having interns than the interns themselves. It is unfair for students to be taken advantage of in this way, and it is directly contradictory to the social work code of ethics. Social workers are supposed to promote social justice and advocate for the…

For those cheering rideshare drivers trying to unionise need to understand…

Rideshare drivers are not employees. Anyone that works under 1099 status are not employees. They are independent contractors they are considered a business in the eyes of the law(IRS), and as such have more favourable tax laws and pay less in taxes than a W2 employee. W2 employees have a set schedule, they are told what time to report to work, etc. granted some contractors are told this as well when they accept a job, but a contractor can choose not to accept a job if it doesn’t fit their schedule. There are a few other things as well that differ between contractor and employee. Employee has better protections when it comes to hours worked, etc. because a contractor/1099 can choose the hours they want to work, where they want to work. Becoming a W2 employee you lose that freedom, and rely on your employer to set your wages, working…

Realistically what can I do to start a union in Texas in an oil based company?

They've fired a few key employees on some pretty minor safety violations that they've let others slide on. The whole shop is pissed, even some of the pretty higher ups about this. They keep promising pay raises, but none come through, even though the company is getting more jobs and is racking in the dough. From what I see there maybe a mass quit coming soon, but, if I could turn it into a union organization that might be better. I just don't know where to start, especially in Texas. Any help would be great
