Pretty much what the title says, I like my job but a coworker recently gave me covid and because there’s no HR overnight it’s been a nightmare trying to contact the one HR person they have during the day to work it out. I got my results back after she already left for the day Thursday, and missed her callback yesterday cause I ended up sleeping most of the day cause I sleep during the day anyway but sleep a lot extra when I’m sick and didn’t wake up until after she was already gone again. I forced myself to stay up this morning and called 5 times to no answer from her (I don’t even blame her, one HR person for a huge store??) so I still haven’t been able to send in the proof that I have covid, and I’m on the schedule for tomorrow night cause (I’m…
So I have noticed a trend over the past year or so with companies not observing Juneteenth. I understand it's a courtesy and the holiday is new and it's hard to fit that within a company's budget but I feel like that has been an excuse for a while. Not only is it a Federal holiday but in Virginia it's a state holiday. Yet my employer in VA is not recognizing it as a day off. My last company based in DC didn't recognize it as well. My issue isn't the day off , but these companies going out of there way not to update is beyond annoying. The DC company sent out an email saying “While we recognize the contributions of the African American community…blah..blah… you still need to work …blah …blah..” Is your company not letting you off?
In my experience the most ineffectual and out of touch people in the business community are business owners , HR and managers. As a manager how do you sleep at night being able to sell out your fellow person for a wage that is wholly inadequate and exploitative at that. What kind of mental gymnastics must you do to justify your self on this earth, and your existence? As a manager you are either are part of the problem or the solution. It’s difficult for a manager not understand working class issues especially when your salary depends on you not understanding the problem. Not standing up for your team or fellow human shows lack of courage and integrity. It’s not a left vs right issue, its not an identity politics issue, plain and simple, it’s us vs the 1%.
BE KIND, DON’T GRIND!
I know I’m lucky to get a raise, but it’s essentially $100 per month extra than what I’m usually paid. With inflation, that doesn’t do much for me. I met all their requirements and put well more than my 40 hours in to stay afloat with their demands. The excuse for the amount of my raise? I didn’t exceed their expectations. I didn’t help my coworkers with their work because I had too much on my own plate. I didn’t join any committees or clubs offered by my company, so only my unit knows who I am. I’m not putting myself out there. If I had, I could have had a more substantial raise, but because I’m doing exactly what I was told to do, I’m only getting a 3% raise. I’m supposed to be getting married this year and we want to buy a house so we can start…
I am a preschool teacher for a very big and well known school and im so tired of it. I am one of the best employees in my hallway/age group (been told many times by management and got employee of the month out of 70 workers) but make two dollars less than the new people that just got hired. I also have all my certifications and 4 years experience under my belt so that is not an issue. My co teacher just got a 50 cent raise which still puts her at 1.50 less than the new people. I could not run my classroom so well without her and she deserves much more than they gave her. Last week a teacher passed out in my classroom and once again our school phones werent working. Someone had to leave the class out of ratio and run upfront for help. They keep…
