I started having symptoms Monday and have had a 103 degree fever since Tuesday morning. It’s been rough. I finally went to the doctor yesterday after work and tested positive for Covid. I don’t have a lot of sick time, but I have a several weeks worth of PTO. I used all of my remaining sick time and tried to take the rest of the week off with my PTO, but it was denied multiple times despite everyone I work with knowing my symptoms and seeing how miserable I was. Meanwhile another employee got the week off with admin leave (not using PTO) for having the sniffles aka Covid symptoms. It’s ridiculous and I’m going to look for a new job because of this.
Co-worker lost his vacation pay.
I live in the US and work for a county government in a mid-west blue state. I'm one of two foremen and we have an immediate supervisor I'll call A, along with next up the ladder I'll call B. Supervisor B likes to micromanage and has allowed a toxic work environment to grow and fester. We're shorthanded and they have looked the other way in the case one worker who likes to avoid doing what is assigned to them. Granted nobody likes to work but the rest of have to pick up the slack. Another team member gave his 2-weeks notice a short time ago and used his PTO and sick time for the last week. The other foreman, Supervisor A, and I have all been looking for other jobs. At the beginning of this past week on Tuesday, supervisor A gave his 2-weeks notice. Yesterday morning on Thursday, A…
Medical company I work for is negotiating a new contract and refused to give raises, quotes a letter from out of state, I am in Michigan. Who can poke holes in their effort to screw the little guy?
In the hospital, asked to work
So I’m 15 hours post op, spent the night in the hospital but should be able to home today. I’m on PTO for several days. We don’t have medical leave and I don’t qualify for FMLA (only been there 10 months). I got a message from my boss this morning asking me to log in and do some things. I like my job and I actually like my boss – her message really surprised me. But shit, I literally have an iv in my arm right now, wtf.
I make a net income of 1100 or so a week. I recently just learned that, “leasing an apartment?”, can have increased rent if you make large income and apparently a 1000 dollars is a lot so my rent would be a 1000ish a month plus basic necessities, disregarding commodities that I like, since i want to live fairly comfortably ignoring the grueling hours i work. It's a lot ig, but for the hours I work, it also isn't since I'd like to go out a have a good time. (I work 12 hour shifts, “technically 11.5 since I don't get paid for the 30 minute lunch break, 6 days out of the week) I have no benefits since I'm under a staffing agency instead of an employee for the company I work for. It's a lot to the system if your poor trying to just get comfortable but to…
I quit an hour into the work day.
I had been working at this place for about a month. I couldn't do it anymore. The hypocrisy, favoritism, gaslighting, and tattle rewarding just got to me. This and a few other things. Then there was a newly implemented rule of keeping cell phones in lockers. The office manager saying “you are on my time when you are here.” And speaking of rules, management and upper management didn't follow the already implemented rules(ie mask wearing around the public/smoking 20 ft from the building). However, they would chastise us if we didn't follow it. They also speak however they wanted to employees. My last straw was today. The tattle queen receptionist of the office dropped what she was doing today and went to management on me because she didn't like a friendly interjection I made while she was being crass and abrasive to a client for no reason. So I was…
